"TommyBoy"
La Gloria Cubana - Medaille D`or No.1
Length (in inches): 7.3
Ring Guage: 36
After posting my thread about which LGC to try I decieded to go with this one. I admit I'm not a big fan of "Lancero's" but that's because when I smoke them it feels more like holding a cigerette than a cigar. Mental...right?
It's just one of thoes quirks I have but It doesn't mean I wont smoke one from time to time. These cigars I got in a box split with another brother and a friend so I only have eight to store and just so ya know they are from 2002!!
Okay...On with the review!
Upon opening the box the aroma was soooooo wonderfull! Like I said it was from 2002 so I knew it would be good. Coffee mixed with roasted nuts just filled your nose and there was a hint of sweetness as well.
The cigars apperance was very nice. It seemed to have some small bumps in it though as you ran your fingers down the wrapper.
After cutting the head and toasting the foot I took my first draw. The first thing that hit's me is ceder and then aftger a few puffs it mellows into a creamy assortment of like coffee, cream, and what I thought was a hint of like citrus.
The burn is perfect even though a bit slanted (probibly from the way I lit it)and very sharp, I especially am surprised by how perfect the draw is as well. Most Lancero's I've had have tight draws but this was almost effortless.
After about a third of the way through it I thought the cigar took on a nutty and somewhat dry profile. The creamyness was really the forfront on taste and the citrus was still there as well. So far I am liking this cigar.
Getting into the middle and end of this cigar was relitively the the same on flavor, draw, and burn. This cigar pretty much stayed consistent and really didn't have any surprises I could pic up on. The aftertaste at this point is ashy though and I'm having to drink something between a few puffs...Hmm?
Coffe, cream, roast nuts, and even some citrus rounded it out till the very end. Seeing how that was what I was looking for when I posted my question on these, I would say it came close to what the brothers explained.
My final thought on these is this...
I really felt this cigar's creamyness overpowered the flavors I really enjoy. Even though it tasted good it left my mouth dry at times and a bit ashy. For it's age and the scent upon opening the box, I was expecting a "wow" factor on these but I didn't get it. To me it tasted like some cc's right off the truck.
That being said, I still enjoyed it and glad I got them just to break things up.
Would I buy again? Probibly not. The reason being that the cigar profile just did not jump out at me and it's just not my prefered size.
Would I recommend you try one? Absolutly.
I'm not saying there a bad cigar at all, just that I have tasted the flavors of this cigar in many others that I prefer, and without the dryness.
Could just be me though.:dunno:
