A friend of mine wants to build a walk-in humidor im his house. Do you know anyone that does this for a living or has at least built a few of them? My friend will get him whatever he needs and will fly him in from wherever he needs to.

There are a few of us that have done this. I converted a closet to walk in using 3/4 inch spanish cedar material. Used a accumonitor humidifier thanks to the great people here at botl. If you have basic construction skills you can do this and like I said myself and others here have done this and can help guide you through it.

No worries. The guy wants someone that does this on a regular basis. He could do it himself but he'd rather pay someone else that's done a few of these. I know Ron builds desktops but I'm hoping he knows someone that specializes in building walk-in humidors.

Damn Pete, I thought this was for you. I would have been the first one over to see it when it was done. Never saw a 52" wide door before! :stretchgr

Might stop by the shop tomorrow.

now, regarding walkin, if I was building one, here is what I would do.

first, from all I have read, and from advice from those who have done it, I would hire somebody who knows how to build a bathroom. I would be using the moisture resistant sheetrock. Make sure that the sheetrock gets taped and spackled well so that all seems are covered. You want no gaps for moisture to escape or dry air to get in.

Too save some $, I would use mahogony plywood for the walls. It doesnt have to be too thick, its just for show. Again, tight construction. Make sure that all seams are covered with trim. Make sure that trim is tight to the floor and ceiling. Again, tight, gapless construction just like making a humidor. Is your walkin going to leak a little bit? sure, just like a desktop or cabinet, its supposed to breathe a little bit. I would go tile or wood floor.

Have an electrician install some outlets, and maybe a plumber get you set up for a autofeed humidifier and reverse osmosis system.

shelves can be spanish cedar if you want to spend the $.

Our new accumonitor walkin control will allow you to save some $. It controls a room humidifier that you can pick up at Sears, and does a great job.

I did similar, I did hardibacker, laid sheets of 1/2 inch foam board over that, then covered the room with tyvek, then put up the spanish cedar. I got a great deal on it. every seam every time was taped and sealed. When installing the door I used great stuff foam to seal it. Then cut nice custom trim pieces for the room.

The construction of a walk in is pretty simple. If you have the space and the right tools, and the extra cash of course, your there...build and humidify

There hard part of this is filling it up once completed...

Good luck
