I just got a delivery on Monte # 2’s. About 7 of the 15 have white mold on the caps. They were really wet off the truck. It wiped off easily and I’m not concerned about smoking them. I have searched the threads and cannot find a definitive answer on storing these. My question is if it’s safe to put them in the wine fridge with the rest of my cigars or do I need to keep them in a separate desktop humi? The pic is probably the worst of the bunc. The rest only had a few tiny spot around the cap.

Looks a little bit like plume or bloom which is a sign of good age... does it easily wipe off? If so, it's not mold... they are plumes.

I've seen mold at the foot of the cigar and that can't be wiped off... you don't want to smoke a cigar with mold... not sure how to rescue a cigar with mold.

Box code 09. Positive this is mold as it was a bit fuzzy. The pic is after I wiped it off.

With a mold situation you can take a VERY SMALL amount of rubbing alcohol mixed with water and just wipe off the cap to kill the spores that may be left over. That way you won't have any problems storing them with the rest. And it is at the cap so it gets cut off anyway. I've done it before and not had any issues when it comes time to smoke them.

Mold can easily be wiped off, the way to tell is if it is raised and fuzzy it is mold. If it is flat and sparkly it is plume. My suggestion is put them in a separate container for a couple of days and let them dry a bit. then place them in general population. You can go ahead and throw them in with the rest but I like to let some of the moisture come out.

I would get a blue zip loc container with lid( one of the long shallow ones.) place a sheet of Spanish cedar in there, then put the wiped off smokes in there as well. Then place the container in the vino. No need to worry about them mixing with the other smokes in the vinodor.

Yep, I would say mold. Go with the 2 pices of advice above, as long as it was not on the foot you should be fine.

Good Luck!

I'd agree with John. My worry wouldn't be whether they spread the mold, but more about how quickly they dry out. If they stay wet they'll sprout mold again. Dry box they for a week with a hygro on them. Every time the hygro goes over 70% open the tupperware/humi/travel humi for a bit. When it levels out around 70% put them in the winador. This should keep them from sprouting again.

In the winador they'll dry out much slower because the humidity difference is so much less and you run the risk of the mold spreading to the foot.
