today... 2004 God of Fire by Carlito Churchill
a little loose on the draw, but after about 2" the smoke really started coming. flavor was sadly a bit muted, but every now and then there was this distinct, strong note of hazelnut. straight out of the bowl of christmastime mixed nuts.
oddly enough, it lacked excitement, almost as if it were past its prime. seems unlikely for a cigar from 2004, so maybe I just grabbed the bad one in the bunch. not to say it was bad, by any stretch, just didn't live up to the name.
I had a bottle of 2009 Grgich Pinot Grigio (Fume) with the GoF (after getting about halfway through the GoF). Interestingly, I didn't care much for the wine prior to pairing it with the cigar, but through pairing, it became much more enjoyable. The oakiness died down and the fresh green grape came through.. bits of lemon too. It sadly didn't help the cigar, but did allow me to finish a bottle that I probably would've otherwise pitched.
Also, a picture of the Stanfords 90th from the other day. These are expensive, but in hindsight I might have to go clear out what I can get my hands on.
