About a month ago a buddy passed a link that had a 10 pack sampler and decent looking desk top humi for a really decent deal. I figured if cigars weren't really for me, I'd at least have a neat conversation piece in the den.

I think somethings wrong with my humidor. Its almost out of room.

I've been reading about the coolidors, and vinodors. Definitely some cool projects out there.

LOL, nice. My #1 tip to new smokers is always, buy 3x bigger humi then you think you need. Either go coolidor or $100+ humi right out of the gate.

I've been thinking a coolidor. The vinodors are cool too. It'd also be pretty wicked to have a walk-in in the basement. The coolidor will be the next phase, as I sort out other ideas.

Right on! Yeah, I'm still trying out new cigars all the time and finding what I like and don't like. Then theres the geeky collector in me that hears of random and rare or limited items, and I have to nab at least one. I also have a little 25ct box for my infused stash.

I see you've found the slippery slope. my suggestion since your so new to cigars is get a cooler and couple of cedar trays biggest bang for you buck so you can spend more on trying different things

Awesome! Now I'm stoked on the idea of a walk in. I have a couple spots in my basement in mind to build one. But its going to be a long project that gets done as my budget allows. The upside is... my basement isn't finished yet, so the actual construction part of it should go pretty smoothly. In the meantime, I am planning on a coolidor project within the next few weeks.

some ?'s I have as for the walk in... obviously maintaining RH is key. What wood, or other material, should I be considering and factoring into my budget to make the walls and ceiling out of? Also, how well should the room seal up? Does it matter if the door/entrance/access panel(s) leak some air as long as it stays at RH? I've noticed the walk ins at the B&Ms I go to dont have air tight seals on their doorways, so I'm curious if its of major concern for a home walk in humi.

Austin,

Are you in KS? I used to live in Utah and My parents actually still do, but I know that in their basement which is about 75% finished and the other 25% is not, but their cold storage room has a failry high RH. The outside RH stays very low, but the moisture wicks throught the concrete to raise the RH in the basement...It stay exceptional cool also, the unfinshed portion probably never get above 62 degress...

If my old man smoked, he would have a great place to make a walk in too...the basement makes a perfect place...

Ken, yep, I'm in Kansas. Overland Park, Kansas. And yeah, the basement has the most consistent climate, compared to every other part of my house. That was definitely good to hear. Cheers!

Basements? What are those?

In Joplin... they hardly exist! LOL Something about that whole filled-in mineshaft thing...
True... When I lived in N.E. Oklahoma we kind of had a basement. the thing that sucked about it is to get in it you had to lift the huge steal door in the floor of a closet to get in.

Doesn't sound like a basement to me... Sounds like a badass hide and go seek spot though!
