I'm about 3 years into this hobby, give or take a few months....and seeing as I just pulled the trigger on my 1st 50 ct. cab...i'm curious what folks' 1st cab purchase was. 50 sticks is a lot to have on hand of something if they don't smoke as you expected them to...or perhaps "hoped" they would.

So...

What was your 1st cabinet purchase?
How did they or are they smoking for you?
Any horror stories and/or regrets? Assume there would be at least a few of these...

My first cab: PL PC's (EMA NOV 08). I tried a few singles and loved them so pulled the trigger on the 50.

I used to go out of my way to try singles before purchasing a cab, especially on cigars that aren't made in 25-count boxes. Now I never worry about purchasing 50 CC's. If I don't like them, someone else probably will and I won't have a hard time trading or selling them.

I have since purchased 2 other cabs: Boli CGs (TEB MAR 08) and SLR DCs (AEP FEB 07). Anyone I've gifted a BCG to from the cab has agreed it's the best BCG they ever smoked.

I am 3 for 3 on cab purchases. Considering my success rate on cabs and how seldom I end up with a box I truly despise, I always go for the cab if I have the space and the cash.

What cab did you buy?

I tried to hedge my bets as much as possible.....bought some 08 Upmann Mag 46 Tubos a good while back now....loved the few that I smoked quite a bit..and from everything I'd read/researched 08 was a great year for Upmanns (and many other marcas for that matter), so I pulled the trigger on an 08 cab of em'.

I'm sure some of those 03 Des Dieux folks are out there....as that was a tough call for me between the two, but I just prefer the CG vitola more. Although I did smoke an 03 DD recently, and it didn't suck.

A fiddy cab of bolivar PCs was my first cab purchase. Mostly smaller cigars (party shorts etc) that I can smoke when on the run.

There are a few cigars that come in cabs of 50 that I wouldn't hesitate to buy. PLPCs and Party Shorts are both the kind of cigars I like to smoke on a daily basis, so buying them 50 at a time seems a practical, and logical way to do so. That said, I rarely sit down and smoke a double corona, so as much as I'd love a cab of SLR DCs, it probably isn't gonna happen any time soon.

I am an '03 HDM Des Dieux guy :) I picked up a few more after getting my first and I love smoking out of the cabinets...the different factories produce different cigars (from the same year) I have found...unfortunately :(- although still very good....the original one that I am in love with seem to be sold out...forever! :( again.

STA MAR 09 Party Lusi Cab. Smoking 2 a year right now and they are def back. Transitions thru the whole cigar. I fig when they hit there stride I'll still have half a cab left to enjoy. I did some research on another forum and the live review for 09s was really good. I loved Party already and bit the bullet last year this cab was my Bday present.

07 Lusitanias. Great flavor, mostly tight draws that can be worked with so all was not lost. Have about 5-10 left.

Had to ditch the first one out of the cab due to it being a tent peg. Most disappointed I've ever been with a cigar.
