So I get a call from the wife today. She tells me that one of her clients went into, and I quote "a poor excuse for a humidor" and pulled out a REAL cc cigar to gift me. He told her it's not fake. On top of that this dude is from Cuba. She tells me I have to send him a thank you email later. I get home from work tonight thinking I should have a great smoke waiting for me only to find a really bad Monte 2 knock off. Looks like the ones in the border towns of Mexico. I told her it's fake. She laughs and tells me I still need to thank him. Do I tell this dude what's up so he doesn't buy more of these or just grin and let life go on?

If it was a family friend and not a client I would say something, but since he is one of your wifes clients its best probably to just thank him. Its the thought that counts right?

If she just wants you to send him an email thanking him... I would just send a quick email thanking him. I agree with Dread... if it was someone I was buddies with, or knew well, I would tell them. Since this is one of your wife's clients, I wouldn't say a word. Bad for business.

Having found myself in the same situation more than once, I just smile, say thank you, and tell them I will smoke it later...

Sometimes people either refuse to accept or are offended by the truth...

Part of me screams that someway, somehow this guy needs some education on how to spot a fake. I just can't think of a real good way to go about that...so say thanks, perhaps mention BOTL and maybe he'll come here and be educated :dunno:. And I second what Crypto Sailor said .

I agree with everyone else, send a quick thanks and be done with it. Normally I would always tell someone the truth with education in mind, but he already told your wife it's not fake so this is one of the rare times I wouldn't say anything...

A couple weeks ago I recieved an EsplenDILDO from my sister. Band was near-perfect (but had some tells). The cigar sucked - bad. Lasted about five puffs.

I'm trying to figure what to tell her, and my 13 y/o son says "Just smoke a real Siglo VI, then tell her the Cohiba was great."

Devious... but good advice. :)

Pick a cigar out of the humi, close your eyes, pretend that it was the gifted fake... open your eyes, and thank him for the smoke... that way your note will sound genuine.... basically, what others have said is good... don't confront him about it being a fake.

He told her it's not fake.
This is the part thats weird to me. Either the client assumes the person he's gifting is unaware or he's mis-informed because whomever he bought them from told him "they're real". Regardless, unless its a good client of hers or a friend, just send the thank you note and be done. G1
