Anyone else find that buying samplers is a great way to get stuck with cigars you don't want to smoke?

That's exactly the point behind most of the samplers you find at some online retailers. They stick a few sticks of note into a sampler, and fill it with non-movers.

There are some sites that you can build your own sampler, or even samplers that they put together with all quality smokes. They will never be as cheap as the other type of samplers out there, but at least you get what you like.

occasionally you might find a decent smoke, but for the most part I agree entirely. Once received a sampler pack that someone bought from an ad in the back of a magazine on an airplane... they made great mosquito repellent! (and people repellent too.. they were AWFUL!)

I bought 2 samplers when I first started smoking and none since (I still have a cigar from one of the samplers too) unless you count line samplers (which I don't).

I bought samplers when new lots of people do. I then came on here and realized that the trade section usually has fivers for a great price. If you are looking for a variety go to your local b&m grab five sticks, might coast a tad more but you can see them smell them and feel them. Worth the price difference in my opinion.

You know... most of time there a picture or a list so that you know what you're buying.

I think samplers are great for someone (like me) who still wants to try everything twice. Eventually I may settle down (as many smokers do) and establish a rotation of just a few of my favorites, but for now I like variety.

I agree picking up a selection of sticks at the B&M or one of the online retailers that sell singles is the way to go.

I love that some allow you to build your own or buy a sampler from either a line or a blender.

I used to buy samplers and always tried every stick. After suffering some bad ones and finding a few decent yard gars Now i stick to 5er's and bundles. I think they are good when starting out to get a variety trick is not to purchace to many.

Side note, if you got sticks you dont care for and don't know what to do with just bomb your troops, you free up space and do something nice for soilders overseas.

yes, more often then not. However you need to get on Holt's mailing list because they have monthly many excellent price samplers with little to no filler

I don't mind picking up a sampler as long as it has more than one of each stick. Gives me a chance to try something I wouldn't normally try, and make sure the first try wasn't a good or bad fluke.

Cheers :ccool:

I agree with you fellas. There are a heck of a lot of filler cigars thrown in and if there are not then the sampler gets pretty expensive. The only sampler I have bought recently was that Tatuaje one for $19.98 shipped. Pretty decent deal. I just notice all the time that the brand new guys to smoking buy the cheap samplers from CI or some place and end up hating half of the smokes.

The problem IMO is the samplers, it's where you are buying the samplers from. If you are getting them from any of the catalog retailers, they are always going to have their house exclusives in some shape or form.

The few B&M-type shops that to do them, do them well for the most part.

I noticed you are in Plano. I live near downtown Dallas. Which cigar shops have the good samplers if you don't mind me asking? I know the Cigar Warehouse by the Willow Bend mall has some pretty good deals but I have never looked at their samplers.
