So I receive an email from CigarAuctioneer saying "check out our new auctions." I check it out and Tat Black Lanceros are listed. I think cool, I wouldn't mine picking up a couple below MSRP.

I go the site and the starting bid is $9! :cursing: The email states starting bid is $1 but it's really $9. Not to mention the starting bid is above MSRP.

Took a couple screens to show what I'm talking about.

Just my rant for the day and another reason why CigarBid is superior.

The auction may have started out at $1, but as you can see people have already bid and taken up the allotted 25 singles. Hence you have to outbid the lowest bid and it looks like since the bid increment is $1 so yeah $9 to get into the game. Tats are one thing you'll hardly ever get a good deal on at an auction site. They're just too well known. Padrons are another brand that you're better off just buying. I've seen some stuff go for a ridiculous amount over MSRP.

Yeah... looks like someone may have already had a bid in for a lower price... so you had to bid over MSRP to get them since you are bidding after him or her.

Yes you can, but it depends on what your'e after. If it's a well known brand then you're less apt to be able to score a great deal. I also favor the quickie or one day auctions. Since they're up for only a day, fewer people are apt to see them/bid on them...at least it seems so to me.

I was talking about this with another botl a month or so ago and seems like this is the trend as of late. Due to certain cigars limited status (opus, anejo, tat, viaje) seems like the big retailers are placing these items on "auction" and not putting them on their standard store. Which I see as being a great way to share the share with everyone...but they could also just sell them as singles only if they wanted. Feels like this is just a way to sell these limited cigars at over MSRP without the manufacturers getting upset. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Is famous still a sponsor? they are not listed in the sponsor list? Just curious...

If they are...I apologize and am not trying to attack them. Seems like everyone is on this bandwagon...

That would depend on where you live. I live in MA where the cigar tax is through the roof. Anything I bid on pretty much no matter what the price on cigar auctions is still cheaper than buying at a Massachusette's B&M.

Nope, I know exactly where you're coming from . I also get upset with people on those sites that either don't seem to know or don't care they're paying over msrp (not talking about the LE stuff, I can see how that could get out of hand quick). I shop there cause I'm looking for major deals and refuse to pay at or even near msrp on most stuff. If I wanted to do that I'll just visit a site sponsor.

This is frustrating as all get out... People who don't do their homework muck it up for the rest of us bargain hunters. I saw a pair of chuckleheads bid-up a box that Atlantic sold for $88, to $95! What a bunch of ding-dongs...

I have gotten some great deals on CBid through the day only deals and the free fall. I have also watched a few items go for over the going price many times.

I know for instance that a 5 pack of El Triunfadors #4 will sell for over $20 on CBid, but just this past weekend they were on sale for $18 at Cigarmonster with free shipping.

I don't think it would botgher the manufactuers if they sold for over MSRP, though some can be quite upset (to the point of pulling prodeuct in the case of some) if the product is sold under MSRP...

There are two sides to the price issue imho..

Manufactuers creating limited runs (or artificially restricting supply to make them limited or htf), and people that are uninformed that will pay an unreal price for cigars.

I am convinced that some lines are marked as limited and supplies are held back to increase demand and price. (I likely happens in a variety of other industries too)

Then there are the people who are cult-like followers of a particular brand or individual that are willing to pay any price for product. I know one guy that said that a new cigar being released a couple of years ago was "the best cigar that is being produced, and there is nothing that will come close"... and this is BEFORE he tried the cigar and BEFORE they were released.

Different strokes I guess..

As far as the auctions go... the cigars are worth whatver people are willing to pay for them. They thrive on the uninformed, and that is how they can offer good deals on other things....

Just my two cents... :)
