Headed to Newport News, VA

I will be at Langley AFB next week Monday through Friday for work. Anybody have some places I should stop by? I am sure I will gab a cigar or two, but anything food or attraction related is a welcome suggestion. I might head over to Norfolk to see the ships, that's if they let me near them.

Haven't spend a ton of time in that neighborhood, but I do recall good pizza at Vinnys, decent enough steaks at Yukon and great pepperoni sandwich and fries at the Sand Bar (they have also been known to have some surprisingly decent bands many evenings.) If you're headed down to Norfolk/Va Bch, there's way too much food, drink, entertainment to begin to list here.

If you golf, bring your sticks. All the base courses in the area are decent and very reasonably priced.

I assume you can get on base - if so, you can get close enough to the ships for a pretty impressive windshield tour depending on what happens to be in port at the time.

Tons to do on both sides of the tunnels. History, golfing, fishing, sightseeing, nightlife, music......

I have a pass for Langley, not sure if that allows me to be on base at Norfolk though. We are working on the construction/renovation of the hospital on base.

I do have a rental car, so I may try to head across the water to see what I can see.

Great staff in there, made my 6 months in hampton much more enjoyable. A 5 Guys burger joint is right next door to them, easier to spot the 5 guys.

And not only is there 5 guys, there are a number of great restaurants within walking distance of Emerson's Cigars there in the Town Center, and if you like good beer there is always Park Lane Tavern right there too, DFH 60 minute on tap, you can smoke on the patio and lots of eye candy working there too.

And I agree with Dave, if you want to see the tourist sites, you are only 20 mins away from Williamsburg/Yorktown/Jamestown. For golf, I would play the Raptor course there on LAFB, great track.

Post up a night you can meet up and we'll see what we can do.

CS, I've moved a few hours away and don't get down there as much as I'd like anymore. But, I'd be interested to hear your opinions on Bonds - PM, if that makes better sense. I was just looking at that location. I am staying at the Hilton Garden Inn across 64 from it and would love to grab a good beer. I'm thinking that Monday may be dinner with the site guys, but Tuesday or later I should be free. I'll keep you guys posted and play it be ear for now.

Just to add, there is an EP Carrillo event at Emerson's Hampton on Thursday Aug 25th too.
