Short answer, no. And I am not a cane fan. Loss of scholarships, bowl ban and tv ban would fix their wagon enough. Hell, they cheated and were not that good!

The whole NCAA system is a joke. The big teams/schools and the NCAA earn TENS OF MILLIONS of dollars on an annual basis, but it is a violation to give perks to the athletes. And don't give me that "The player get's a free education" crap. The school doesn't give a damn about the education. It's all about TV contracts, filling seats, and selling merchandise. If Tyrone and Jim Bob leave with a degree... good for them.

lets not get ahead of ourselves...currently they are only allegations. Considering the source and the fact that there is only ONE coorberating source, I say most of these can be BS. I highly doubt the Canes or anyone will get a Death Penalty ever again.

The problem, as others have said, is NCAA wide. You really think Miami is the only place this is happening? I guarantee as I type this 50 colleges are scheming some way to give a football star that little bit extra. I vote no on the death penalty.

While I agree it's about filling seats and making money but you're off base on schools not caring about the education of their players. Michigan constantly refuses top recruits that don't meet academic standards, and suspend players for missing class before they become ineligible.

While there are plenty of schools look the other way, there are plenty that stress education first with athletics a close second.

I'm a firm believer of keeping college sports as "amateur" and yes they're getting a free education, room/board, books, and clothes. That adds up to a couple hundred thousand at many of these schools over 4-5 years. They don't need more than that IMO.

Agreed..Pane said is well enough...

This is the case at most schools around the country if the NCAA dug down enough. The education these kids get is a joke anyways, when is the last time you heard of a player ineligible because of grades...All these schools have special tutors and resources that the regular student never gets access to plus all the freebies that go along with the their free education...I have would have to agree thats its all about filling the seats and the money that follows.

Its happened again, and it wont be last time...Slap em and move on...

I say yes. For until someone sets the precedent this type of behavior will persist. Yes, it goes on at more schools than we'd care to admit. And no, the death penalty might not dissuade all but, in this case it'd be a start.

BTW: True, the NCAA as it stands is a joke. Nevertheless, it's the system of record and until better governance comes along we have to live with and abide under their headship.

Just my $ .02

I say no. There is too much money tied up in conference TV money. Like them or not UM draws people to TV sets.

Bless said set a precedent...it was set with SMU 20 years ago and that didn't dissuade people one bit.

PS It's A Canes Thing...U Wouldn't Understand

Funny, but last year two Michigan players were ineligible at different points of the season and they sat. Also take a look at:

2010 Graduation Rates at BCS Schools

I understand your comment being a TAM fan (55%)...national BCS average is 69% for 2010. :rolling:
Funny, not a fan but a Graduate...The point is that this kind of behavior will be found again and again with college football.
