So after a week of listening to meteorologists hype up this storm.... It turned out to be no worse than a nasty nor'easter (for us). I always enjoy a good storm but happen to be disappointed with this one. How did everyone else fair?

You should check out the news. Jersey's pretty bad just from inland flooding. Parts of 3 surrounding towns around me are evacuated and under water. Clinton, Hackettstown and Highbridge. We don't even have it that bad highways got washed out in NC.

Well California was spared, all kidding aside some places were hit pretty hard, luckily the hurricane wasn't as strong as forecast. Regretably some of those deaths could of been prevented is people used common sense during the storm

I should have specified a little better that all the hype was here in Boston... Merely asking how people in other communities weathered it, hopefully safely.

I agree it was overrated, yes its sad people have have gotten killed. Not trying to be a dick, but I've seen people get killed in crosswalks and a few other ways. But I think the noreaster we had was way worse than Irene in the Hampton Roads area of VA.

My department ran from one call to the next from Midnight to about 3 pm. Lots of trees down on wires, houses, roads closed and one electrocution. Not a fun time here in the Pocono's.

Vermont is a disaster area. The flooding is widespread and will likely disrupt the state for quite some time. My heart goes out to those residents.

Wow, yeah same with our department... We ran from call to call for about 8 hrs. The surf was impressive... And easliy cleared the seawalls. Mainly downed trees, lines, flooded roadways.

For those that quite did not get the death and destruction you can thank north Carolina I guess you never heard plan for the worst hope for the best. People sound disappointed it wasn't so bad. I'm sure if I was a parent who's child died you guys would be clumped in like Glenn beck who said this hurricane is a blessing. Id say gfy you sick bastards

It's always best when storms like this turn out to be a "letdown." Those small amount of deaths could've been way higher if Irene wasn't hyped up as much as it was. My 91 year old grandmother lives in Deleware by herself in a house off in the woods. I was pretty worried for her safety but glad the storm spared the trees around her home.

That being said, I think there is a sick inner feeling inside us that likes to see destruction. Obviously the loss of lives are a negative, but seeing the power of nature/God is pretty intoxicating.

I cant believe that someone would say this storm was a disappointment. I suppose it would have been better if the entire east coast looked like New Orleans after Katrina...

I don't know that anyone's actually disappointed, save for the news media that was hoping for a bigger story. The continuous coverage seemed downright silly in places.

Overall, as a NYer, I'm pretty happy with the level of preparation we had around here. Were we over-prepared? Probably a little, but I'd rather that than the alternative.

Now I just need to find a guy to get this tree off my house - http://chazhollywood.imgur.com/irene

i'm very happy that it wasn't as bad as predicted. i'm just sick of media that gave it 24 hr straight coverage even when they knew it was not as big as predicted.
it never hurts to be prepared. katrina taught that.

Agreed 100%. I think state and local governments pretty much did the right thing (at least around here), and the news media went a little overboard chasing ratings.

Its good that they over hype the storm, noone wants another katrina...N.O is still haveing to deal with that one. Its much better to over prepare than not. Im pretty sure the East coast would not do well against a storm like katrina just like the gulf didnt. Any lives lost are sad, but weather like this is very interesting and people like to see what mother nature can do...

On the gulf, we could use a series of storms...No hurricanes but it would be nice to see a line of tropical storms just waiting to dump some serious rain on us. We need it along with alot of other places.
