lest things get taken out of context, which they usually do, here is the full quote of glenn becks "blessing" about irene. haters amaze me sometimes.

“How many warnings do you think you’re going to get, and how many warnings do you deserve? This hurricane that is coming thorough the East Coast, for anyone who’s in the East Coast and has been listening to me say ‘Food storage!’ ‘Be prepared!’ ‘Be somebody that can help others,’ you’ve heard me say this for years. People have made fun of me. That’s fine, I don’t care. I’ve been telling you, ‘Don’t be in a panic situation.’ If you’ve waited, this hurricane is a blessing. It is a blessing. It is God reminding you — as was the earthquake last week — it’s God reminding you you’re not in control. Things can happen. Be prepared and be someone who can help others so when disaster strikes, God forbid, you’re not panicking.”

Context, there does not need to be any, a blessing this is not. Unless it wiped out some plague that would have killed tens of thousands. Please, God reminding you, I guess he is a prophet of the Lord now. This is like Pat Robertson saying AIDS is God's punishment for homosexuals. This guy is wack sometimes. His food storage is part of his Mormonism tenets, or along those lines. I'm sure he owns some portion of some business that deals with this. Ok, it is a blessing that death and destruction rain down upon the earth and you can sweep in help others during this lack of preparedness, because you have God on your side. Last time I checked, it rains on the just and unjust. I think everyone should be prepared for disasters, but to call it a blessing to show that your are prepared to others, please!:chat:

Here in Virginia we got our asses kicked. I won't have electricity until Friday probably (went out Saturday afternoon) and a lot of friends have homes or cars that were either damaged or destroyed by either flooding of falling trees. My place is okay (flooded basement) and no one close to me got hurt thank goodness. The pharmacy I work in has been a zoo, and I have spent as much time over the last few days coordinating shipments of ice, bread, and milk as I have spent filling prescriptions. All in the dark haha. It has been qn adventure but I'm ready for things to get back to normal. Checking the board from my phone plugged into a generator keeping the drugs cold at work right now haha.

I wasn't disappointed at all that the storm surge stopped 6-8 inches from coming in my house. I was more than happy to spend 3 days doing work in preparation for nothing.

Overhyped? Explain that to the people in Jersey and Vermont who are dealing with floods and raging rivers that were once small creeks.

Sorry you were so disappointed....maybe next time.

A lot of people have bashed the media on this one, but I have witnessed first hand how a storm can change, and get stronger real quick. Hurricane charlie was not suppose to make landfall anywhere near here, and was not suppose to be over a cat 3. I would rather see the media scare people into being prepared rather then people taking these things lightly.

Scary part is this is the little boy that cryed wolf story. People begin to not listen and then one like Katrina comes thorugh and wipes out hundreds or thousands.

"Hyped up" Irene did plenty damage, let me tell ya. My backyard on the river is in a 500 year flood zone and Im actually worried it may be in my back garage when it crests tomorrow morning at 5 and wont go back down till Thursday. I work for the local utility company, Im an underground electric splicer, theres a boat load of high and low voltage wires down everywhere in my area. I dont think they 'hyped up" anything...

Not sure how it was over hyped, seems like it did a lot of damage to me. But what do I know, I live in Vegas and the worst thing I have to worry about is 115 heat waves and the occasional flash flood, I am sure there are about 5 million people who would like to be in my shoes right now. I think giving as much media attention as they did is a good thing as there are always people who don't get it and if just one of them do because of the hype, then it worked and probably saved lives.

As a born Floridian I can say that no hurricane is ever "over hyped" as I have witnessed first hand the destructive forces of countless hurricanes. I for one think it will be sad if another ever threatens the north east again because I see it turning into a kid who cried wolf scenario. The people who didn't have any real damage and were just inconvenienced by shut downs, evacuations, etc will just try to ride it out next time around. Most hurricane related deaths are due to people who try to ride it out instead of listen and get the hell out of a danger zone. At least 35 deaths and an estimated 10 billion in damage due to Irene at this point is not "over hyped" in my opinion.

Agree it was far from "over hyped", still over 20,000 in the county with out power and estimates for restoration heading towards the weekend. Roads still closed due to trees and wires down. School was to start yesterday and has been cancelled due to the lack of power and road closurers. What really peeved me is the number of people out running the roads during the height of the storm. Trust me everyone of my firefighters would have rather been home, and here are these people who have no reason to go out other than they think they need more Doritios or just to see whats happening.

We got power back in the pharmacy this afternoon, and while it is no longer 88 degrees in there, it was still crazy as hell. I really hope all of the BOTL out there fared alright, didn't lose anyone or anything valuable, etc.
