Marker for Stainless Steel

So without divulging too many details cause I want to keep this on the down low for now if possible...I'm trying to find some kind of marker to customize a stainless steel artifact with. Thus far my tests with a Sharpie have proven less than mildly successful. It has been suggested to spray some acrylic sealant over the marker, but I'm not sure how that'd look. Open for suggestions...

In all seriousness they actually sell sharpies designed specifically for stainless steel. Where you'd be able to procure one locally I have no idea.

Is etching out of the question?

Have considered it, but not really something that is user friendly for the application that I will be using it for. Might be able to adapt it though if I have to.
