could you be on the jury?

my daughter is an ER nurse. she came by today to drop off the grandkid and i could tell she was upset. she told me on her shift last night they had brought in a 4 month old who was unresponsive. her mother said she'd (the baby) been asleep since 130 in the afternoon. this was 930 at night. the child was breathing, but otherwise lifeless. fixed pupils, and a large bruise on the side of her head with obvious brain swelling. (obviously from a "fall") the other part is this baby was a twin, and when the the father showed up with him and the two other children, they all had signs of bruising and abuse.
apparently this poor 4 month old baby wouldn't stop crying, so the answer was to slap her in the head.
i guess having a baby around now kind of brings things like this home a little more, but i can't help but feel that there is no best punishment for this piece of garbage. life in a pmita prison just means the taxpayers have to keep him alive while his a**hole gets widened on a daily basis. execution is too quick and painless....... i'm at a loss.

oh man... I just don't understand how anyone can do that to a helpless child. There's a special circle of Hell just for these winners.

What I just can't seem to understand is that there are scores of people out there that are unable to have kids, and would give their left arm to provide a loving home.... for people like this they are a means to a welfare check.

Sure juries are told to weigh the facts and right now we have none besides what we are being told. As horrible as it sounds nothing has been proven, just hearsay. You are already passing judgement without knowing beyond what someone told you. If a child has a bruise does that mean their parents beat them? Did the police arrest them? Just a lot of emotional string-pulling right now. So , yes; as a father with five kids (one being 2 weeks old), I could be on the jury.

My baby has a big briuse right now on his shoulder. Caused when older brother tossed a softball, and hit him on the shoulder. I'm with plush, until more evidence is shown. of course when it's proven he hit his kid, then send up the river.

I have defended quite a few of these cases in my life. There is a tendency to declare guilt before all the facts are in. Accidents do happen. That being said, it is hard to get a fair and impartial jury to hear these cases because of the emotions that everyday citizens have towards these types of allegations.

I just answered the question and I could be on that Jury and I would love to as I said. I have not hung anyone that is what Juries are for if it went as far as a jury there is enough evidence to merit a trial so I just answered the question.

Agreed. To that end, I've said for years now that I don't believe in hell, but if I'm wrong, there's certainly a fair portion reserved for Nancy Grace.

Oh I could sit on the jury allright ... and I can tell you right now what my verdict would be!

But I'd rather be a vigilante super hero and deal with this monster more decisively. Seriously, the hardest thing about having super powers would be not gutting all the guys like this.

I could be on the Jury.

My oldest broke his right hand messing around. Two days after the cast came off, he broke his left hand messing around. HMMM. About two months after that both boys are screwing around and the younger one falls, the older one falls on top and breaks his younger brothers leg...both bones, not pretty. I abused the older one as I threw him off the younger one screaming in pain.
The younger one is 2 weeks out of his cast and wearing a splint but the ortho says he can ride his bike cautiously...ya right. First time around the block he slips a bit and plants his heel into the ground and hairline fractures it (same leg that was broken). Not long after that is healed and he breaks to bones in his foot (same leg).

Needless to say I thought I was going to have a long discussion w/ social services.

Granted, my kids were 7-8 when all this happened, but given the above it would look like I was abusing them. This case is a child that can't defend themselves or even talk about what happened.

I think my point is you have to remove emotion from the decision making process and only consider the facts...both sides of them. Don't get me wrong, if the facts are clear he is guilty (or the mother) then hang them till the sun don't rise.

Father sits in jail for allegedly putting infant in hospital

Crews life flighted a 4-month-old baby to Children's Mercy Hospital on Tuesday after authorities said her father shook her until she lost consciousness. Now, 33-year-old Dewayne Johnson sits in a Cass County jail for the alleged crime.

According to court documents, Johnson admitted to Belton police his 4-month-old girl fell off the bed during a nap in his apartment. When the baby wouldn't stop crying, he admitted he shook the baby for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

"Everybody around here is upset about what he did to an innocent baby," said neighbor John Williams.

Neighbors said they've noticed Johnson's temper around the kids. The baby's mother told police she only noticed her daughter was unconscious when the 4-month-old didn't wake up from a nap, but she never mentioned in court documents whether he's acted violently before.

"We're kind of irate," said a neighbor who didn't want their name used. "You don't beat your child."

Johnson faces felony assault in the first degree charges. He remains in custody for the alleged crime.

KCTV5's Bonyen Lee briefly spoke with the infant's mother Thursday afternoon. The mother said her daughter is doing much better after being put on life support from her injuries.
