A Anejo Connoisseur we all know as "W" was recently able to secure two boxes of 06' Anejos. I helped him secure both boxes thru a on-line site. After receiving them he handed me one of the 46s to try out. I thanked him and figured today would be a good day to do a review.
Lets light er up!

Taking this Anejo out of its cedar and cello I notice one thing. NO MOLD! Anyone who has dealt with these cigars knows there prone to mold under the cedar sleeves. From foot to head this cigar looks great. Which IMO should be expected from the Fuente family and the price they command. Cap, Wrapper, and the bunching on the foot all look superb. However when I cut the head it looks as it was overfilled. The cold draw however is acceptable. (notes of exotic spices and sweet bread are noted with dried fig as well.
First inch:

So far the first few draws have given ample smoke( not as much as I would prefer) but not a terrible amount of flavor. Some pepper spice and a slight bready sweetness. A few draws later the cigar is starting to warm up and presents with more peppery spice and sweetness on the back end. Retrohaling is easy (my guess due to its age) and presents with nothing more then already noted.

First 3rd:
This 46 has "opened up" quite a bit. Although still a somewhat tight bunch and draw. It has begun to produce a ton of smoke during the exhale. Placed back in the ashtray the ash drops at roughly one inch intervals. So far this cigar hasn't changed much. I do notice the retrohale is getting stronger and I didn't expect the strength. So far medium bodied. The end of the first 3rd is starting to bring out a syrup caramel sweetness now with a white pepper on the finish. (throat)
2nd:
Dryness is creeping in with a drink of water every now and then. Cedar is present now along with the white pepper and a touch of leather. Ambient aroma is Anejo. Hard to describe but it is just that. End of the 2nd more pronounced leather, spice has died down considerably (transitioned to almost all cedar) along with the sweetness. A toastiness has started to come thru just at this point.

3rd:
Beginning of the 3rd still medium body and medium strength. Leather is pronounced but not necessarily heavy. The Dryness on the palate is still there as well. Some exotic spices are trying to show but I cant pinpoint them. Cedar is also still present. Not one touch up on the cigar as well. It has burned near perfect almost the whole length. The strength has picked up as well toward full. End of the third has come on strong. Full leather, full bodied and full strength. Other notes are merely a after thought now.

Final thoughts:
There is no doubt that a few years of age have treated this cigar well. The burn was near perfect. No imperfections were noted on the ash. (impartial burning) Flavors transitioned fairly well. Spice, sweetness, cedar were the most prononced. Although a fairly tight bunch and draw, tons of smoke were produced. Final smoking time was 90 miuntes. This is my favorite size Anejo and I thank W.B. for such a thoughtful gift.

Thanks for the review JB. I haven't had a 46 from that box yet, but am looking forward to it! That cello is intriguing, I didn't look at the cello from the 50 I had from the other box. But it did seem to be aged as compared to fresh Anejo's. I do wish Fuente would date stamp there box's, until then we'll just have to hope the seller's word is good. Thanks again for helping me get these!

Great review J! Way to smack him WB!! Hope those are aged like the seller says. The cello may not yellow like others the same since the cedar is there....but who knows.

Great review of one of the world's first infused cigars!

I love these too, he 46 is my favorite as well (though the 77 is very good as well).

The color of the cello has a lot to do with storage conditions. Certain storage systems lend to quicker "yellowing" of the cello (coolerdors/tupperdors), others retard the yellowing process (Aristocrats seem to do this).

I have some 2001 Anejo with barely any tint to the cello, and I have some '08s that you have to squint to see though.

Was going to say I could have put it outside for a hour and tinted it up! Same thing Nj I have some 08s I've owned since release. Still no yellowing what so ever going on 3 years. But my vinos stay around 64 degs in my basement year round.

Great review man! Thanks. Interesting comments on the cello, especially from njstone. What I would do for an Aristocrat.
