Ordered a box, thanks to Jere. Can't wait to get my hands on these things.

Ideally, I'd love to hold on to this box and smoke one each year on the anniversary - but I know myself too well, and will be lucky if even one of them makes the 11th ann'y...lol

I can't believe they charged me $15 for shipping. When I placed the order over the phone, I was never told about this. I guess they figured I would find out when it hit my credit card :(

I'm sorry if some of you feel that we were being dishonest about shipping. We did never say that it was free shipping. I re-read this whole forum and my blogs and I could not find anything where it mentioned free shipping. I am sorry for the confusion and if a rumor was spread, if you would like to call to discuss this please call myself or Mark at (630)993-1234.

Why would you think shipping was free? Unless I see a vendor saying "free shipping!", I assume there's a cost.

Well, it would have been nice to know that up front when making a phone order and I was told that $200 would be charged to my card. Oh well, I guess I learned a lesson to ask more questions when on the phone...

Having been involved in the response to and work at the Pile and still involved in the follow up to 9/11 I respectfully believe that since these smokes are being sold using advertisement of NYPD, FDNY, PAPD and others that lost their lives and are still losing their lives more of the profits should be shared with those that suffered and are still suffering. I know that business people need to make a profit but since they are flying out the door 20% of the profit is a bit light. If this post offends someone or gets me banned from this forum then so be it. But just reading the thread, the price and the shipping this is immoral. Sorry but this is a very, very sore issue. If I am rambling it is because it just seems that your whole sales pitch is based on people I work with or worked with. Some are still with us and some are not.

GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!

Can't fault your thoughts, although I would point out that $40 on a $200 box isn't 20% of the profits, that's 20% of the Revenue.

I'm not sure what the margin of cigars are - but 20% is a good gross profit for most product businesses, which doesn't include operating costs.

So... assuming cigars are similar, this is probably offered at a small loss to the maker/distributor/retailer, maybe as much as $10 to $20 per box - subject of course to normal profit margins. If margins in cigars are a bit higher, maybe they are breakeven or at a small profit.

Just the business perspective - again, I tend to agree with your logic.

I def respect your opinion and want to start of by saying thank you for your positive impact and involvement in that tragedy. My thought process may have been much different than everyone else's and I'm sure I will get flamed for this. At first I thought just like you are. But then I started thinking a little more deeply about the product. Fact of the matter is...these cigars WILL sell out. Sooner or later. But had Casa decided just to release a Jaime Garcia/My Father LE with NOTHING to do with 9/11...just a nice store exclusive, same number of boxes...they would have sold out. Sooner or later. They could have done it this way and not given a cent to anyone. I dont think this was a marketing scheme to sell cigars and make a profit off a tragedy. Now, if they were releasing some obscure product that has no reputation for being "top quality" then I could see it as someone just trying to cash in on the 9/11 marketing.

Not saying my view is the right one. Just how my brain was working when deciding to buy or not to buy. I still would have ordered if it was just a Casa de Montecristo Exclusive Jaime Garcia LE. So, personally I think its cool they're donating something to help. Every little bit helps right? Could they donate more? Yes. Could they donate less or nothing at all. Yes.

Sorry for the mistake in profit vs revenue. Part of the loss in profit is recouped in the higher shipping rate. I can't believe that Jaime Garcia would be part and parcel to this. Even though I am a cop and not a firefighter. I still take offense to using 9/11 and the number 343 for advertising and profit. That is a sacred number. It represents 343 HERO FIREFIGHTERS who did what others would not even imagine While I was not there during the initial hours I was there when WTC 7 went down that night and spent 21 days digging thru the rubble. Let's get a price from UPS for the shipping and find out the cost difference. I will venture a guess it is double.

Sorry for the outburst.

I have to agree with Smokinbodybuilder on this one, Pepin sells out sticks all the time, his limited offerings combined with a loyal fan base make this happen time & time gain. The Pepin's are very well known & respected and I don't see this as exploitative at all. I find it very generous that they (retailer/Pepins) are offering over $13,700 to 9/11 related charity. Furthermore, I can attest that that shipping charge sound right in line with industry norm. I just got 3 pounds of coffee in this morning - cost just under $10.
