Hello , my name is Dakota. I've been a social smoker for 2 or 3 years. I have always liked the smell of cigars so I wanted to try them. I bought a quorum at my local smoke shop for 1.69 and a marsh stoggie for 1.19 I was wondering if you guys think these are any good or what is good and where can I get them? Also any tricks or tips would be great. I appreciate it and am glad to be here. Thanks guys have a good one.

Hello
Welcome to BOTL. I hope you enjoy your stay.

I am not familiar with the smokes that you mention but as long as you like them thats all that matters.

Best
James

The Quorum is a decent mixed filler Nicaraguan from JC Newman. You can grab bundles for a little more than a buck per cigar. IMO they're ok sticks for the newb but I guarantee you'll outgrow them.

The Marsh Wheeling is a machine made using tobacco from the Dominican and Kentucky and produced in Wheeling West Virginia. You can grab these just about anywhere for a buck apiece. I've tried a few and honestly didn't care for them one bit.

Welcome from Chicago! Looks like Strife answered your question... I haven't tried either of those sticks.

Well to be honest its not bad. But its the first real cigar I've ever smoked most the people I knew and know who smoke, smoke the fruit flavored things. What would be a decent smoke for a reasonable amount of money? Do you guys just go to smoke shops to buy your cigars? I swear I'm stupid tobthis stuff I don't know a thing.

If you really like the two you mentioned and would be satisfied only smoking them stay with them. If you want to explore than grab a couple of samplers and figure out where your palate is happy as far as profiles. Once more I have to warn you, if you don't have a lot of expendable cash lying around you may want to stay where you are and enjoy what you're liking right now. This "hobbie" gets very expensive!

welcome aboard.

Best advice I could give is try a few sampler packs. Some NC brands that people tend to gravitate towards are Padron, Tatuaje, Viaje, Oliva, Fuente among others. Check out the newbie threads as a lot of good information there.

Lots of BOTL sell sampler packs and/or fivers. Have patience and give yourself the opportunity to find out what you like and don't like.

Once you find your favorite sticks. Stock up. Some to smoke now and some to age. You'll be amazed how the same cigar can change over the years. The ones that you don't like, you can trade/bomb/give away to the troops.

One last piece of advice. Whatever storage size you think you need for your cigars. Multiply it by 10. You will need it. Trust me. If you are brave, post a picture of an empty humidor.....

Hope this helps

there really are too many great cigars to limit yourself to just two. i would try as many as you possibly can. but becareful, cigars are a slippery slope. once you start it's usually hard to control yourself for a little while... enjoy!!

Hey welcome, first off remember the best cigar is the one you enjoy the most. Everyone has thier own tastes finding what sticks you like is half the fun. Id say try the newbie sampler trade.
Newbie Sampler Thread
try to take notes on what you like/don't like help steer you in the right direction. Also search the forums lot of good info for newbies on where to start. One last sugestion don't worry about getting a humidor right away. start off with lock n lock plastic container, toss some ceadar in there from an empty box(your B&M should have em) and a gel stick or boveda and your golden alowing you to spend more on cigars.

What's this humidor and b&m and container thing you speak of
well a humidor is traditionally a wooden box lined with cedar for storing cigars what I was refering to is called a tupperdor. Inexpensive but efficient way for newbies to store thier stash.
(not mine pulled off the internet)

and B&M stands for Brick and Mortar, i.e. your local cigar shop as opposed to the online sites.
