Closer to home, you should check out the South Carolina Sit Down events hosted by Tim Rollins. He holds this event twice a year, the major one is in April and all proceeds go to Sister Care a battered woman's shelter. He has tons of give-a-ways from everyone from local shops, and small distributors, up to the major players. I've met Nick Perdomo, Eddie Ortega and others at his even. The grand prize each year is two tickets to the Big Smoke in Vegas. The second event is held in the fall and it's on a much smaller scale. It's mostly for the hardcore cigar smokers however he still manages to have some cigar give-a-ways from local shops or vendors. You definitely want to make the spring event if possible. Visit his blog for more info. and feel free to reach out to him directly, he's a nice guy and is very helpful and would love the opportunity to educate you on this event. http://tinytimblog.blogspot.com/

I was thinking about Big Smoke NYC......But I really don't want to pay that price tag, then still have to get a hotel room and everything
It's basically local for me...train ride in to the city and home. The hotel price would take it off the table for me as well unless I was planning a vacation around it.

Is there anything going on in the Raleigh area over the next few months? I lived down there for 6yrs, my daughter goes to NC State and I still have a ton of friends and family local there...would like a cigar friendly excuse to visit.
Hahahaha, not really. I've only been here for about 2 months. There is really only one good shop here, Empire Cigars. I'm trying to find more stuff in the area, but it doesn't seem like there is much to work with down here.

I may try to get to the Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival. I've been to the Denver/Boulder area back in 2010 and would love to explore that area some more. If the Big Smoke does an NYC event next year, I may try to go to that as well. I will say though that I have heard quite a few not so great reviews about the Big Smoke in Las Vegas this year. A lot of the comments were about the fact that the lines were long as hell and not enough places to sit. If NYC has that same problem, I may bypass that, but we'll see

I did cigar fest the last two years. I would recommend it, especially if you are just getting into the cigar world because of the wide variety you will get exposure to. At the end of the day there will be sticks that you don't like, but it's worth the price all things considered. If I didn't miss the pre registration I would be going again. :hammersma

There's an event yearly at Legends of Fire Cigar Lounge at the Northern Quest Casino in Spokane, WA. They call it Little Smoke. Couple of folks I talked to that went said it was even better than Big Smoke in Vegas. Less people and as many if not more cigars given out. Booze & food included. I hope to go this year.

In the Houston, TX area Serious Cigar puts on two big events. A customer appreciation party in January and the Texas Cigar Festival in the spring. Both big events. The Jan is free to go to. The Festival isn't free but reasonable. But it sells out super fast. This years sold out in minutes.

Don't know if there are any spots left for Cigar Safaris, but I hear it's an amazing trip! And I hear ICPCR is also a grand time, I had a couple buddies who went this year and absolutely loved it.
Isn't ICPCR just for people in the industry? I don't think it's a public event
Yes. Just for those in the industry. Supposedly they started cracking down on shops claiming customers as employees and bringing them along but I haven't really seen anything over the past few years. People who shouldn't be there are really easy to pick out though.

Even though you get a lot of questionable sticks, I think CigarFest is a great place to put faces to names. The DC Cigar Tweetup is also a great event and there's some event only stuff you get with the ticket. This year it's Edgar Hoill Lanceros, last year it was the Ortega Serie D lancero which eventually became regular production.

Today is Stogies & Steaks in Toppenish, WA. It's a golf tournament during the day with tons of cigars handed out. At night it's filet mignon and cigar dinner and auctions. They auction off cigars, trips etc. It's an annual event benefiting the John Hunter Foundation ( building and maintaining a school in a poor area of WA). Can't wait to go..just doing the dinner & auction part. $40 for these huge filets and oysters and some free cigars thrown in is worth it.

The Stogies & Steaks event was awesome. Went home with about $50 in free cigars. Won an auction that had a local brewery package of stuff. Won a super nice Oliva ashtray from a drawing. Definitely need to take more $ for the auctions. A lot more cigars auctioned off with trips and other things. Lots of Liga Privadas. HUGE steaks and the bbqed oysters were out of this world. May give the golf a try next year as even more cigars are handed out to the golfers.
