I just moved everything into my new Avanti 28 Bottle (SWC2800M-1). Its holding at 60% RH. I just ordered the suggested 2 pounds of beads from Heartfelt but I don't think they'll be here until Tuesday. Does anyone know if my sticks will be okay in the Avanti until then? I know, it sounds really paranoid and obsessive asking this. But I'm sure you guys understand.

I actually prefer for many of my cigars, to be kept at 60%. I like how lanceros and habanos burn at that RH. I was also told to drybox some of my ligero cigars before smoking, so I've moved them to my 60% storage.

As long as it doesn't go lower, 60% is ok, especially for a couple of days. I've kept cigars in a ziploc bag before for a week and they were still ok, just me though.

64 is good...60 or less (strictly my humble opinion) is just not enought humidity to allow young cigars to properly age. Oils won't develop, the cigar just won't mature, and thus doesn't taste good.

I'm definately in Justin and Danilo's camp here, nothing to worry about if you are expecting your beads on Tuesday, or even Wednesday. Just my humble opinion.

60 should be just fine, for quite some time if need be. Won't help, but won't hurt. My humi was holding about 60-62 for the year I was in the desert, and everything was fine. I've never had a brand new Avanti, but if it's got "new car smell" I might be tempted to put the sticks back where they came from and let the thing air out for a few days. Maybe wipe down the inside with a real weak alcohol solution beforehand.

I have the same exact model. Bought it last Tuesday, I am airing it out also. I have a pound and a half of beads read to put in, but want the plastic smell gone before I put anything in there.

Is that 60 in the front, try putting you hygro in the back on the bottom where the cooling unit is, you should get more like 74. I have this same unit and issue, I have to have fans going all the time.

i know what you meant, but it still made me laugh...lol

i prefer the low 60's for nc's and high 50's for cc's.
they just smoke better for me in that range...

I've been keeping smokes at 63-64RH for years; I love 'em right around there...hardly ever have to dry box this way. With the exception of smokes heavy w/ ligero.
Try smoking a Tat T110 at 70-72%RH....better hope your torch is full
