Today, in Winnetka, California, a brother paid the ultimate sacrifice by giving his life to protect people in Los Angeles. Randal Simmons, 51, a member of the LAPD SWAT team was shot and succumbed to his injuries, as a result of a man killing his family and then turning his rage onto law enforcement.
Randy leaves a wife and two children. One of his partners, James Veenstra, was also shot and is in surgery.
Randy, your life will never be forgotten, nor will the sacrifice you made to keep us all safe. Thank you for your service, brother! You are a hero, in this life and the next! We will all watch over your wife and children.
Tonight, at 7PM, I will raise a glass and smoke a cigar to celebrate your life brother! Tomorrow, we will continue to do our jobs and keep people safe. That's the way we do things!
Randy is a good friend of my brother's, who was also a member of the LAPD, up until four months ago and he retired after 36 years.
