I've been wondering about alligator meat that I see in the seafood section of my grocery store.

Anybody try it?

I'm asking because I just got 1lb. of some homemade andouille and wanted to make some jambalaya and then I got to thinking that I could do "Gator Gumbo" the next night.

Maybe the restaurant I got it from lied to us and gave us chicken. Its supposed to be the tail meat. One time I had rattlesnake... its all ribs.

Never had it and I live in Florida, go figure.
I grew up in Florida and had it all the time (big on the indian reservations in the Everglades). Fresh alligator does taste like a slightly tougher and less juicy chicken. (Kind of like snake meat, it's a novelty item which isn't really very good.) Chicken is better. Therefore, it is made more palatable by adding sauces. I imagine the grocery store kind wouldn't be all that good.

I've had gator tail several times, including from a gator we caught ourselves in Sebring FLA. Always been deep fried, and the best has been with a spicy cajun batter. I would think it would go well in a cajun dish.
