IMO, yes.@ssaka is it really a bad thing if a retailer hikes up the price? In order to get the Liga Unicos or Opus X retailers often have to buy a lot of national brands to get the rarer cigars. Thus, I understand them wanting to make a slightly larger margin on Unicos and Opus. The truth is selling those boxes above MSRP will have little effect on their yearly revenue as you don't get enough of that product that it will make up a large part of your revenue. However, I understand a retailer's point of view even if it is somewhat shortsighted.
Now if it because the company you must buy the more in demand stuff forces you to buy other stuff that does not sell as well, then I can understand the situation. But as you said, I don't think it really moves the bottomline that much.
Personally I do not believe in this business model. Making people buy crap they don't need to get crap they do need is ridiculous. It means the supplier's price structure is wrong imo and needs to be changed to achieve the balance required for continued operation.
Honestly I think some folks are simply gouging when I hear of some of these ridiculous prices that LPs are sold at.
