Hey guys just new to the site, as well as a new smoker so I thought I'd introduce myself.

My name's Brent, I'm 31 yrs old, have a wife and her 2 daughters (from her 1st marriage). We live in a small town just west of London, Ontario - about 2 hours west of Toronto. I work as a police dispatcher, and referee hockey in my (little) spare time.

I've just recently been introduced to the world of cigars. I'm now set up with at least a small humidor (holds 60-75 sticks apparently) and have ordered a second one, since a friend of mine is supposed to be picking me up a couple boxes on a Cuban vacation shortly :applause::applause:

Early in my smoking "career" if you will, I've only had a couple of cigars. I did not like the H. Upmann that I smoked, and greatly enjoyed the two Montecristos that I've had so far (not sure which upmann it was, the monte's were a #4 and #5).

I'm looking forward to building a collection, hopefully starting with the two boxes I have coming back from cuba - Cohiba Robustos and Partagas #4 if she can get them. Something I will likely be looking for here are instructions on converting a wine fridge in to a humidor. I really like the idea of a mass storage unit, but am NOT a "handy" guy at all, so the simpler the better...lol

Anyway, I look forward to being a part of the community and sharing my experiences as I enjoy the world of fine cigars.

Cheers!

Hi Brent. welcome to BOTL bro. Converting the wine fridge will be a piece of cake. I basically just put boxes of cigars and a container of about 1lb of Heartfelt 65% beads into mine.

Welcome!!!!
Sounds like you are already on the slippery slope downward.
ha, most definitely so...the wife commented on that today too.

Up until about 8 weeks ago, I'd never smoked a single cigar - now I have a second humidor on the way and am starting to think about a wine fridge-ador. You could say I've been bitten by the cuban cigar bug (just hopefully not the beetle...) - most definitely hooked.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, been looking around the site a bit today, seems like a great sense of community and brotherhood around here - something most definitely lacking from the other forums I've posted at.

nah, being out on the ice with the kids is great. Almost as relaxing as sitting with a nice cigar (til they drop their gloves and start fighting each other...)

It's the parents and coaches that make it miserable. The most hassles I've had have come from the <10yr old age group if you'd believe it.

Looking around the site, I have a few (probably dumb, but nonetheless) questions.

I see trader ratings listed on everyone, but didn't see a place for making trades. Is this something that just sort of happens as you get to know people, or is there a forum for dealmaking?

Also as far as the "BoM" voting stuff goes - what types of things qualify someone for selection in that?

As well, at the top of the introduction forum, there's a "newbie sampler thread" but the link in it is not working for me. Is that something that is no longer active, or am I just missing something...lol

Thanks again :)

I think you need a certain number of posts (10 maybe?) in order to see some of the threads. Someone will probably verify this pretty soon, but I believe that only certain things are available to people with less posts. We DO have a trading area, (buying, selling, trading) and that's why you see the trader ratings next to people's names. Keep active, and again, welcome to the brotherhood Brent.
