Cellphone Sundays are real man! I was meeting with TSgt today talking about basic and he said you're allowed to take you're cell phone to basic and you get 15 minutes every Sunday to call or txt whoever you need to. The story behind it is that a Generals son went to basic training and didn't call for 4 weeks so the general called where he was and said that he understood but his wife did not. So long story short they now allow cellphones for 15 minutes Sunday. They might discontinue cellphones and only allow 15 mins every Sunday with pay phones due to some people posting stuff on twitter and Facebook and pictures at basic training so yeah there's the answer to your question man

First of all, Great Job!
KP duty is good, as long as you are not on Pots and Pans

And Yes, do not volunteer for anything in Basic.

Yes, I agree with H3rrington, I want to know about feelings cards and cell phone days.

If you don’t now, start running and working on PT, when I first left for the Army, I could barely run 1 mile. At the end of Basic, 2 miles was no problem. And after some training while I was stationed in Ft Bliss and Korea, I ran up to 11 miles. Its not hard to do, your body can a lot farther than your mind first thinks it can.

And a double everything that D Quintero says, he is spot on. If you want to excel, learn from your NCOs that are an excellent example of what the AF wants as an NCO. Stay away from the POGs (Shitbags) that are always bitching on why they can’t get promoted and how it’s so and so’s fault and never their own. Just being associated with them could be bad for your progress.

Growing up among some very established military family members, there was always a desire to go into the US military. Both grandfathers being veterans and members of the United States Air Force, having two uncles one currently in the Air Force and the other in the Navy. Going through high school I wasn't as interested in the military route, but in the last months of my grandfathers life before his passing he really encouraged me to look into going this route. After months of thinking and meetings with recruiters and going through MEPs I've come to my decision. Going to school is big for me and my education is something that I've worked hard on and want to finish out what I started. For this reason I have decided to go into the Air National Guard and after college I will be going active in the United States Air Force, while I am still a student going to classes the guard offers to pay college tuition and is much more helpful with me being a student.

Now I know a lot of you vets and current military members are on a different level as many are not in the guard, but for me this is a way to pay for college and go to school before going active in the Air Force. I made the decision and signed the papers today while classes were canceled, and found that I will leave for basic at the beginning of June down in Texas. Now I do know from my uncle that it is NOT just sign the papers and you're in and it's far from that, and that you need to work hard and prove yourself, and nothing is guaranteed until you graduate and go through tech school, so I want to be sure not to get ahead of myself in any way like some guys I have seen recently. So what I'm asking really is any advice or info I should know before basic? I realize I am no where near your guys level at all and haven't proven anything yet, so if just like so helpful info that could help me as I enlist into the military.

On a cigar note! I just bought a CAO cigar sampler special box from my local cousins cigar shop he works at with all of their top cigars, which are your favorites, I'm enjoying a CAO Brazilian as I write this!

Great decision. Only advice I can give you for Lackland in June is drink tons of water. Good luck and god bless.

#BOhioTL,

Just don't be an idiot. Remember we live by our core values: Integrity first, Service before self, and Excellence in all we do. You live by that code and you'll be good. As you may or may not know, our military branches are going through a huge reduction. The Air Force needs to drop 25,000 Airmen by Jan 2015. A lot of good Airman will loose their career within the next year and I'm praying I'm not one of them. It's a very stressful time in the military due to the current budget of our government.

Don't fall victim for the stupidity that happens in Tech School but still have fun and use a condom ;)
Learn your reporting statement, chain of command for the Air Force/Gov, AF song and AF Creed. A good recruiter will set you up for success, have a long sit down with him. I'm sure you'll be just fine brotha. PM me if you have any other questions.
