I don't want to irritate anybody, but I do not like the "thank you for your service". I signed up and I knew the ramifications. Maybe thats just me and my generation. Again, this is my opinion on my generation
I hear ya and I'm not irritated. I've heard similar comments from younger service members who say they're "just doing their job." I understand that sentiment and while I think their humility reflects well on them, I've come to have a different take on it. I thank the waitress for her service during my meal. I thank the doctor for his service to my health. I thank a lot of other people who are just doing their jobs...because they deserve it. If I can thank all these people for doing jobs big or small, glamorous or not, I can certainly thank those who've undertaken the important job of serving our country. They deserve it, too.

I would rather be a friend rather than saying "thank you"
Good thing it doesn't always have to be an either/or decision. I consider a sincere "thank you" to be an act of friendship, even if it doesn't lead to a deep and enduring relationship.

No worries Jason. Do like us old crusty bastids do...

Respond with "No, Thank YOU for supporting us".
