I respectfully disagree."But yes, these are awesome defense guns but IMO way too heavy for concealed carry."
When it comes to "self protection" a gun can never be to heavy in my opinion!
The only way I've been able to comfortably carry (& conceal) my P229 is in a shoulder holster. This doesn't work well in the summer months. I resorted to a fanny pack and it bounced a lot because of the weight. Finally switched to a Glock 27 and stayed with it. They're both 40's and there might be a few fps difference because of the barrel length but I doubt that anyone on the receiving end would know the difference.
Came back to say that I do agree with you that one should carry the largest handgun that is "comfortable".
Most consider pistols in this order:
22-25cal too small
32cal barely sufficient
380 still lacking
9mm adequate
40sw better
357sig better
45acp best
10mm best
And revolvers:
22cal too small
22mag too small
38sc barely sufficient
38spl adequate
44spl adequate
45lc adequate
357mag more than adequate
44mag and up too big
Naturally the size/weight is roughly proportional to the caliber.
