Are the Liga T52 Stalk-Cut wrappers fragile?

Ive smoked more T52s than I care to admit and have never had a problem like that. Ive had a few minor cracks (all of which were small enough to smoke through) but nothing like what you had happen. Like everyone else said, prob a small crack from transit you didnt notice or a flux in humidity that expanded the filler and binder causing the wrapper to split.

Thanks everyone. I think I got my answer. It was either a pre existing crack that happened in transit or my gorilla fingers did the damage during the 6 months I have owned it. Both are pretty likely scenarios in my opinion.

I've been thru almost a whole box of these and have only had one problem with any of them. It was about 36 deg outside when I smoked it and i had a small crack in it. I would have to attribute it to the cold temps. I have had the box a little over a year in a wineador at 70 deg and 65% humidity. I would have to say these are pretty tough wrappers as I have dropped a couple and still not had the experience you had.

OP--Its quite the opposite, the LP wrappers are some of the thickest in the world!

Cracks happen, could be an rH issue, could be weather, could be it was overfilled, could be there was a small crack ready that you didn't see, but upon heating up expanded to the point of bursting.

My advice: buy some "Cigar Glue" or veggie pectin, and keep it with all your other necessary cigar tools. I hate smoking broken cigars, so I mend them on the fly with great success.

As far as T52s go, and I can say the same for any #9 or Dirty Rat I have ever had...I have never seen any so buggered up. The wrappers are far as I've experienced were almost Timex tough.

I might have smoked a box or two or three or four in the last couple of years and haven't had one do that to me.

I've experienced this problem on the T52 and number 9's. My rh is at a constant 65 and I have had at least 4 crack on me afterabout 2 weeks of sitting. Maybe my b&m is much higher and the longer it sits at a lower rh cracks it but I'm glad I'm not the only one this is happening to. As in it's not necessarily my fault. Ligas in ny start around 14 so its heart breaking to see a stick that expensive get smoked earlier then I intend to just to stop any further damage.

I also make sure the stick I'm buying at the time is the best of what's left in the box so it's not an issue when I pick it up

Sorry for the third post in a row but the cracks I'm talking about stem from the foot

Is that the only stick from your B&M you have had that problem with? Try some from another source if possible. Another solution may be to store them at a higher humidity level (70%) if you can because the wrappers tend to be thicker on these. Don't know why you have had problems with them but I hope you get it worked out. These are some great smokes.

I've never had this kind of problem either with T52's.

One thing I just noticed is that you smoked outside, in MN, in November. What was the temp/humidity that day?

Quick changes from stable humi to colder/drier outdoors when combined with the heat of the freshly lit stick can absolutely do this. I've had this happen often in the fall/winter here in Chi-Town land.
