Just to put it in perspective, it ain't the same world that you guys moved out in. Everything costs a lot more. I'm working on moving out, but it's just very difficult to actually make ends meet.
It's all relative: era/inflation/wages = one broke loke in any decade.

I moved out at 16. I trekked up to Tacoma from a little burb in SW Utah and never looked back. I had a sister up in the Tacoma area, lived with her for 5-6 months and then moved in with a chick.

Big shake up here at the Tripp house. And as a result, I do not have either of my offspring living at home any longer. they are aged 21 and 24. Please wish them a safe and happy journey into the real world.
Kicked them out of the nest eh? Yea, I've been considering that with my son ... since he was 14.

I moved out of my parents' house when I was 19. I had completed my first year at college and was working full time. I shared an apartment with my brother and a mutual friend.

As for my son, he can stay here as long as he's going to school full-time. However now that he's 19, I am requesting (re:threatening) that he get a part time job and start paying a small portion for rent + food. This will teach him money management and real world work ethic.

Hmmmm...Depends on the definition I guess. I left for school and never looked back for the most part. I was back home for Holidays and maybe my first summer (having trouble remembering) but other than that, I spent most of my time at and around school. Once I graduated I was back at home for a little over a month before moving down to Florida with the then GF (now wife).

Went off to college at 17, married at 19 and never looked back. For what its worth, gave my son the push at 23. Now he's married and my VP of Operations. Great kid but, otherwise he would probably still be a sponge

17. took a year off after HS. I worked full time as a commercial painter, got my first apartment, and learned real fast about money management lol! After I saw that painting full time was not for me I got my ass in gear and went to Texas Tech to get my teaching degree.

Man, I hung in there as long as I could to save dough to buy my first house!

22/23 for me. My wife and I bought a place a couple of years before we were married and staying home definitely helped.

I moved out at 17, moved back in when i turned 21. I messed up my credit and got into a larger than I could afford debt, thats the reason why I had to go back. I pay rent, and bills, so my return is not free. I am almost done getting out of debt, and I moved back in with the same idea as N2adventure. I hope to be able to get out in about 1 1/2 - 2 years, abd buy me a 2 family home. So far it is looking plausible.

Out at 18, moved into my grandmother's house for a while at 19. Stayed at my mom's for a week or so when she was in the hospital, then out for good. Married at 21. My wife lived with her parents until the day we got married. She was 19 at the time.

My question is how old were you when you moved out?
I have been away from home since I was 18-19 years old. That might be too young and as such it was very rough in the begining. I do feel it has made me a more resourceful person and I appriciate things that I have obtained very much.
I was booted when I was 18...moved back in four about four months when I was 20/21 before I left for the Army and have been on my own ever since.

Moved out when I was 17, but strangely enough....I came back every weekend for dinner.

Mostly because I would have starved to death if it wasn't for Sunday dinners.

My father was "given" early retirement when I was 20 & subsequently moved to Colorado (from Chicago). I was dating Elly (still am) & couldn't imagine leaving her. I had a good job (for no degree) & so I decided to rent a room in a guy's townhouse I knew & start my life alone. years later, I'm doing fine & have never moved back. It's Chi-town or bust for me.
