For all you do-it-your-selfers, what kind of motor oil you use.......

I use 1/2 synthetic and 1/2 regular along with a container of STP Oil treatment. I have been doing this for many years and have noticed a big difference in my engine smoothness and pickup......

And of course I only use HiTest gas, in my vans....

I have never heard of mixing synthetic and regular.
I have been under the impression that if you use synthetic (such as a Corvette) and switch to a reular oil it would cause a higher rate of oil consumption.

When the oil light comes on, wait till the next day (50 to 125 miles later) and buy the cheapest oil that the gas station has. Have oil and filter changed each May (every 30 to 40K).

The cheapest oil & filter possible and change it once a year whether it needs it or not.

NOT!!!

Quaker State or Valvoline only, no synthetic . Good quality filters like Purolator. Have you ever seen the inside of a Fram? I have and I'll never put one on my cars again. I used to work at a parts store with a machine shop and I saw the results of various types of oil & filter use.

That is my plan- Have a 94 Plymouth Colt that I bought 3 years ago with less than 100K miles. Paid $750 for it. It now has 216K. Most economical car I have ever owned and gets just over 35 mpg.

Finally starting to give me a little trouble- early in the mornings and when humidity is high it spits and sputters until it warms up. Once it's warm, I fire up a cigar and enjoy the commute.

In 25 years of drving I've never had an internal engine problem. I change my own oil and use 100% PA grade crude oil with a quality filter and change it every 3000 miles.

Castrol Syntec is actually part Synth and part conventional oil.

As for myself, Mobil 1 with the Purolator PureOne filters, every 4500-6000 depending on the time of year in a 99 Jeep Cherokee (4.0L w/ 80k) and 03 Mazda3 (34k).

I had to do a lot of research into oil and filtration systems for the one project I've been involved with at work. The army has requested a central oil system for an entire truck so that everything can use the same lube and extend drain/service intervals if possible.
