My wife and I are adopting. A birth mom up in Iowa selected us to be the parents of a boy... she's currently in labor! We are shocked and excited! Very tentatively excited though... a lot of things can go wrong... or she can change her mind. But excited nonetheless! Here's to hoping we get through this.

congrats. i cannot imagine what kind of process that would be. I wish you and your family nothing but the best!
A long and scary process. Waiting for her to get out of labor so we can talk on the phone. If everything is a go we get in the car and drive up. She has three days before she can sign consent over, but then she has four days to change their mind. That part sucks as that's four days the baby is in our hands but can be taken back with no recourse. In FL they don't have any time after signing consent over.

Thanks all for the well wishes but it doesn't look like this is the one for us unfortunately. We spoke with the birth mom over the phone and thought all was going well. Just before we headed up there we heard from our agency that she was now unsure, we were "too perfect" and it made it "too real."
Still a slim chance she'll change her mind but we aren't holding out for it.

First and foremost, here's still hoping the best for the little guy. That said, I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work out. But on the plus side, now you can focus on the next opportunity to do right for a kid who wouldn't have such a positive future otherwise.

Thanks for the support. We are actually pretty lax in what we are looking for. Girl or boy, most ethnicities, and a lot of various drugs from the momma. A lot of to be parents automatically cross out every possible drug but there are a fair few that don't have any long reprocussions to the baby... A shitty, nerve wracking couple weeks in the NICU, but nothing damaging long term.
