I've had Diabetes for the last five years, found out when I went in for my 40 year checkup. Today at my Dr. appt, I was told I had to start insulin. I'm not overly thrilled about this, it's $120 a month for the medicine and syringes, but of course the bigger factor is that my Diabetes is out of control. I know this will help, but I wish it wouldn't have gotten to this point. Needless to say, diet and exercise will now be a part of my daily routine.

Sorry, just feeling sorry for my self is all, mostly for knowing it's all my fault for the lifestyle I've been leading. :frownno:

That's sad to hear. Luckily with the right combo of diet, exercise, medication, and motivation, you can keep it under control. Some people are able to go off insulin after a while if they do well enough keeping controlled.

I am very sorry to hear that you have to go on insulin. Some good news is the fact that there seem to be tons of advances in the treatment of diabetes to where the pill form of medicine is getting better.

Also, I just read they came out with some tattoo ink that they want to get approved to use for people with diabetes. Instead of lancing yourself to check your blood sugar level, if you get a tattoo with the ink, it changes colors to indicate what your blood sugar level is. Pretty cool and maybe it could be a kick-ass tat!

Again, sorry to hear the bad news. Hang in there and I am sure things will get better. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Wade I'm sorry to hear this bro. Wade, I am truly sorry to hear about that....As others have said, it can be controlled, etc....But that probably does not help much right now.

Just know we are all thinking about you and wish you the best of health in the future!

Taking insulin does not mean you are Type I and while it does take time to get used to the idea of what you are up against you can still live a very good life. Diet, exercise can often influence your sugars and eventually might be able to get off of it. Everything in moderation.

Sux to hear Wade. Luckily it is something that is controllable. My brother was diagnosed with type 1 when he was in 1st grade. That 20 something years ago and I saw what changes he had to make to adjust through his school age years. At least as an adult you can make smart informed decisions and not fall to teenage peer pressures.

Best wishes and good luck. I hope you can adjust quickly to the changes.

Sorry to hear that. My dad was facing a similar situation, but he started exercising and cutting out a lot of sugars from his diet, and he's managed to control his levels; and although he never had to take insulin, his lifestyle change worked out for him, as I'm sure it will for you if you keep with your new regiment. My best wishes to you....

I have to agree. One of my bosses has diabetes and his doctor kept trying to get him on insulin. He has refused the doctor several times and what-do-you-know, he's still taking pills. Every 1-2 years they will change the medicine and dosages if his current medicine starts failing to work as well as it used to.

Sorry to hear about that. I've got a friend who has diabetes too - he seems to get along just fine. Loves life. Just have to keep a positive attitude about things as hard as it might be at times.

Wade, I'm really sorry to hear that my friend, thankfully it can be controlled thru diet and medication.

It just seems like more and more people are becoming aware of it later in life.....and no I'm not saying you're old, just mature!

Riding your motorcycle, smoking good cigars, and drinking good liquor and coffee can't hurt anything my brother!

(...have they told you whether it will be thru pills or injection?)
