Wade,
You can handle it but your second point is the one to hammer home. Diet and exercise. In late Feb was having the same discussion with the doc. 62 pounds later and a lot of running, my three month test came back clear. I know you. You are a hard headed son of a gun and this is your damn life. You can do it. Of anyone I know. You can do it.
Amen Chuck!
I will say it loud and proud. F the doc start working out everyday. eat nothing but healthy foods water, water, water. And you can erase this (guessing type 2) it happens every day w thousands of americans. I don't know why it isn't preached more on the news. But you can make this shit disappear bro! Come on Wade we know you got it in ya brother. I got faith in ya!

I've had Diabetes for the last five years, found out when I went in for my 40 year checkup. Today at my Dr. appt, I was told I had to start insulin. I'm not overly thrilled about this, it's $120 a month for the medicine and syringes, but of course the bigger factor is that my Diabetes is out of control. I know this will help, but I wish it wouldn't have gotten to this point. Needless to say, diet and exercise will now be a part of my daily routine.

Sorry, just feeling sorry for my self is all, mostly for knowing it's all my fault for the lifestyle I've been leading. :frownno:
I'm a T1 diabetic. You'll get over feeling sorry for yourself. Wallowing in self-pity is normal, but if you let it rule you, you'll only get sicker. :stickbeat

I found out at 29 that I was diabetic. I am 32 now. At 29 my "bodybuilding" and high-stress lifestyle contributed to developing the disease. I used Metformin for a while until it didn't work anymore. Numerous daily tests ran in the 300 range.

We tested to see how much insulin my body produces and discovered it was near ZERO. My doctor (endocrinologist - see one, not just your primary care) put me on an insulin pump. It's a small beeper-sized device which has a tiny needle. It feeds insulin into your body non-stop during the day. You change the placement of the needle every 3 days (depending on how much insulin you use). It's painless.

Since going on the pump, my daily tests average about 100 and my a1c values have been averaging ***6*** - that of a healthy, normal adult. I've also made adjustments to my bodybuilding routines and diet to ensure I don't eat the shit I did at 29. More cardio, less sugar and carbs, and a better understanding of what can hurt you in the long run. I'm in better condition now at 32 than I was at 18.

Insulin isn't a cure, but it's a way to make sure you and your body get back on track. Change your lifestyle NOW. You'll see improvements, feel better, and get back on track sooner than you think.

Let me know if you have questions and good luck.

That said - I'm headed to the gym. F**k diabetes.

Sorry to hear that Wade. I was diagnosed when a friend of mine passed away from pancreatic cancer. I swore to my wife I would get a physical after he passed away. Anyway, been on the pill for the last 5+ years. Blood sugar comes back great. Exercise and watch the carbs!

Good luck!

Jeff:)

I know your pain. I am diabetic also. Taking oral med presently. Have been thinking about a exercise program for two years. Just thinking. Way to control the sugar is to diet and exercise. I got the diet down somewhat but the exercise, haha. It can be controlled Bro. Follow what your doctor tells you. My suggestion is to get under the care of an endocrinologist that specializes in Diabetes. Good Luck my friend.:peace:

Exercise & diet are key, gentlemen. Wade, as Dennis said - you should absolutely see an endocrinologist to get a better understanding of the condition and your available options. Check with your primary physician for referrals & opinions.

There are also excellent sources of information out there too. Check out dlife.com for a diabetic community/research forum. And always ask questions.

- Your fellow diabetic
