I also like the get both and split them so paying half the cost. Box splits are the best way to try different marcas and vitolas. Most would say both cigars you want to try are good enough to split, win-win situation.

These are both great examples of their respective vitolas, but the Magnum 46 has been enjoying a flourish since mid '08. It is the most popular cigar in our walk-in, and my personal go-to cigar.

The logical choice might be a PSD #4 10ct & H. Upmann Mag 46 T/A 15. All of life's dliemnas should be so fun to figure out.

Enjoy your Habanos.

Cheers

For those that have smoked them, how does the 08 MAG 46 compare with the 09 and 10 MAG 46's?

Thanks,

Vince

Is too close to call an acceptable answer? I've smoked more PSD4, but I've been happy with every 46 i've had.
I call it a tie!

How about the 2008 Mag 46 Tubos vs SLB 25/50s? You guys notice a difference?
Not much, Nate. All have been excellent. Like AZ said, they have been "magical". I recently finished my last SLB from the days when they were unbanded. They were good then, but are great now. There is something about the blend and age that have come together in a remarkable cigar. FWIW - the #2s are also very good.

^ THANKS FOR THAT!

So with all this talk, I just had to light up another Mag 46. This really is an excellent cigar for me. Loads of flavor, lots of coffee, toast, hints of cocoa. If there was just a tough more sweetness it would be almost perfect for me. But as it is, a solid 92/93 right now, which seems very good for an '08. I'd like some more please :)

Loads of flavor, lots of coffee, toast, hints of cocoa is exactly what i experienced when i smoked a Mag 46 from EPR 08 about 2 months ago. I'll age them a bit more before i try another one.

It was good but man, PSD4 takes the crown for me. I only had PSD4 from 08. Got a box of 09 but i am waiting for them to age as well. They had bloom on them when i open the box 2 weeks ago.

hmm ... if your '09s are blooming, it's probably early mold grown. I've never heard of a CC that young with actual plume starting. Who knows, but if I were you I'd check very carefully. Mold isn't a big deal, just wipe it off, but you don't want it to stay long enough to grow into the foot or to stain the wrapper.

Kyle, I snagged a box of JUN 10 PSD4's and they were excellent. Very well made, I've smoked the whole top row since I got 'em in September. However, I'm smoking a Mag 46 right now courtesy of a brother on cbid and its fantastic. I know one sample is hard to make a decision off of, but if I had the choice between one or the other, I;d take the Mag 46. Nice spice, some dark coffee, and dark cocoa abound. Tasty.
