Just sitting around bored at work and began thinking of my friend that does not smoke much. We went to a local lounge last week and I offered him a cigar. The choices were...
Joya de Nicaragua 1970
Joya de Nicaragua dark crojo
Drew Estate Uzi
Drew Estate Legend
Undercrown
Cohiba black pequenos
(I am a bit of a Drew whore)
I had him take the Legend as it was the lightest available.
So what does everyone else recommend to a friend that is just picking up the hobby?

Yeah, some of those are heavy hitters, so I think you made a good choice. Connecticut is probably a good choice, or just a mild to medium smoke. Man o war virtue is a great smoke in that profile. It's mild to medium, but is still full bodied with lots of flavor (something that a lot of mild cigars lose it with me).

Thanks for all the responses guys. I just thought about it and really can not remember what my first cigar was. I started some knock offs I think.

I thought this was going to be a thread about me....

I'd probably say a either a Short Story or a nice Connecticut.

I was started on a Nub Connecticut. It's a short smoke, mild and buttery in flavor, designed to be the "sweet spot" of the cigar. I recommend that. See what happens.

That isn't an acid I'd say a fuente, a Hyde park, or maybe a four kicks
I was going to say a Fuente or Hyde Park too. The Hyde Park is actually not a bad cigar but is overpriced...so I'd recommend a Fuente if possible, especially a Hemingway, easy to light, not heavy hitting and they're always good. Harder to find but would probably still be quite enjoyable to a newbie, Quesada Espana, such a good cigar.

It all depends on their nicotine tolerance but usually something medium bodied. Not too light or too heavy.

My first smoke was a Baccarat. I would highly recommend that to a beginner smoker. It's super Mild and smooth. And before that, I literally had never smoked a single thing besides a couple swisher sweets. I usually keep a couple on hand for other people to try if they've never smoked a cigar before.

I think the Perdomo Lot 23 is a great entry cigar. CAO Black seemed to be liked by a couple friends of mine who weren't actually cigar smokers.
