I've always believed that cigars often leave great memories in a smoker's mind the same way a meal can. Sometimes it's due to the quality of it, but often at times the place our event where you smoked cigar only made your memory better. My favorite cigar memory involves when I was living in Las Vegas for a few months. I had saved money for a year to move out to Vegas, and I remember I did a $20 parlay on a UFC fight with (Rashad Evans vs Chuck Liddell), a random college football game, and UF vs. UM. A few days before, I was at the Davidoff store in the Venetian. The manager convinced me to buy the Zino Platinum Crown LE 2008 with a special wrapper. They had a buy 2 get 1 free deal. I remember when I won the parlay I won $220. I was so happy with my victory right in the Bellagio sportsbook I lit up one of those cigars. For two hours I puffed away on the cigar savoring the win and the phenominal cigar. Alas, I have been unable to find another one of those cigars in the five years since that day (I'll find one eventually)...but at least I still have the cigar memory.

What's your favorite cigar memory?

Elephant cigars, because they never forget...

They all involve smoking a cigar with my best bud after a hard night of eating and drinking. The cigars where many (Partagas Rosados, Padron 3000, Simon Bolivar Coronas, etc.) and the brands had nothing to do with the memories.

I've shared this story before, but it was my first Montecristo #2. My wife and I used to throw a garden party (well... patio party) in August every year. Two years ago, one of my good friends brought me a Montecristo #2 from an LCDH in Germany where he had been stationed. It had some age on it, and was maybe one of the most beautiful smokes I've ever encountered.

I smoked it around a table with some of the best friends and brothers a guy could ask for. At one point, my wife came over from where the girls were all chatting and whatnot and took a puff. Several minutes later she came back and said "I'm sorry, I can't concentrate on anything they're saying over there, all I can think about is how good that cigar is." It had been a wonderful evening, surrounded by great friends, enjoying great food, and would be forever etched in my mind along with the smell of that Montecristo.

Within a half an hour, my mom would call to tell me my grandmother was dying and might not survive the night. I remember sitting there stunned, and then surrounded by my closest friends, we all prayed together. While the evening took on a more somber tone, it was immensely comforting to be surrounded by my friends and family, and in some ways the joy of that evening was increased simply because when contemplating death, those surrounding me were suddenly made that much more dear to me. I also took comfort in the rest of that incredible smoke as I thought about my grandma and many memories came flooding back.

Whenever I smoke a Montecristo No 2, I still think of that evening, of the friends and fellowship, and of my grandma.

That's a a really cool story man. I've had a lot of great memories but the one that jumped out in my mind immediately was the first time I ever smoked a cigar. My first cigar was a RyJ Habano en tubo. I was pretty young so I don't remember the actual size and stuff, but I remember my parents randomly telling me to go pick out my favorite cigar (I was fascinated with them before I smoked and took care of the humidor lol) and we're gonna smoke it.

My mom, dad and I all were outside sitting on the patio around 5 (back when everything was perfect and nothing bad had happened in my life before)

Before lighting it, my mom showed me how to cut it lol and my dad showed me how to light it by rolling the cigar around in the flame so it would be completely lit.

I remember lighting it and seeing the smile on both my parents faces as we all shared the moment together and that was priceless. It ended up going around like a blunt though lol, my mom would smoke it for a little, then my dad and then it got back to me.

We had an awesome conversation that evening. A lot of stories of them telling me what they first did and how they were really proud of me for never smoking/dipping behind their backs so they could enjoy the moment with me. (I really hadn't ever had anything before)

I remember after that first night, we ended up doing it about 3 times a week. It was really cool to be able to spend quality time with my parents all while enjoying a cigar.

My best cigar memory is the day my daughter smoked her first cigar. We sat on the front porch talking and smoking. We smoke together regularly now, but that first time will always be my favorite.

Right now my little ones love to come "smoke"... which consists of them getting as close to the cigar as they can, blowing through the cap, and then making "eeewww" noises and running away giggling. :D

It was a Friday night had couple beers and had eaten dinner early though, my wife surprised me with a Flying Feral Pig she found at a local b$m close to her work! It was my first and I wasn't about to smoke it fast. I started in had a couple mixed drinks and then BAMMM it hit me. My wife asked what the hell is wrong with you and why are you ordering a pizza at 1030 at nite LOL. I got some food in me and went back to work on that pig, was 3 hours of pure enjoyment to get through that thing and me and the wife had the best time sitting up all night laughing and bsing over that cigar. Now it is one of my favorites, and have been trying to hunt down the last 2 of the tainted fruit piggies (t52 & UC pig). That was one of the best and most memorable nights ever! It is amazing the conversation that can take place over a great smoke.

First time I herfed with a bunch of like-minded folks, and realized that others were as much in love with the leaf as I was. In the words of one of those people, "I came for the cigars....I stayed for the people".

1997 watching the sunset at Rick's Cafe in Nagril Jamaica during my Honeymoon. I had picked up a Big ol' Monticristo no. 1 at a shop in town that afternoon. I wasn't a cigar smoker at the time but knew Cubans were something special. I think it cost $20 and my bride didn't say a word. Since joining this forum I realize now there's a good chance it was a fake but damn that was a great smoke. Haven't had a Cuban since and I can only hope that when I do it lives up to that memory.

Around the time my son was born I was gifted an Opus X. 5 years later when my daughter was born I finally smoked that Opus X. My son was asleep and my wife and daughter were still in the hospital. (I came home to take care of him for the evening) I was on the back deck by myself with some Jameson I believe. It wasn't about the cigar or the drink, it was about the moment.

In September I was at a DE event and first off I scored a box of UC pigs which was awesome! Second of all, all day I was surrounded by great people and my girl.. I met tons of new friends and smoked alot of good cigars, I spent alot of time my girlfriend! She's my age both 23, when she was 17 she was forced to drop out of high school to take care of her mom who was very ill because no one else could take care of her, she never finished sadly because of this... She recently went and took the test to get her diploma and passed it all with flying colors! That's not the best part... At that event me and her were in line to meet JD himself and my girl got the call saying she passed and with extra points to go to college too... Instant tears of happiness from her, a Rep from DE came over to see if everything was ok.. We told him the story, he congratulated her and he went on his way! We get up to JD, he gives her a huge huge and congratulates her on passing the test and accomplishing that task! All around happiness! We all talked for like 30 minutes... He took out an Liga Privada "A" cut it for me and lit it for me and told me to enjoy it! He did the same for my girl but it was a Natural NDB her favorite! He signed my FFP box to us saying this exact word "John and Brittney, it truly touched me to see you experience such an important achievement today! My advice is to always look out after each other" he is the coolest guy ever! Such a down to earth nice guy! After that we sat for while thinking about how perfect and awesome this day has been and I will NEVER forget this day! EVER!

my next one.
It's funny, after thinking about it before I read through the posts this was my initial reply. I have been extremely fortunate to have a ton of great experiences related to cigars that could be considered "best". Multiple trade shows, 2 trips to Nicaragua, access to brand owners and most notably getting to meet and hang out with several dozen BOTL's over the last few years.

So while Ara's answer is short and to the point, I would have to agree that I look forward to making that next memory more than thinking about the last one.
