.338 Lapua is also a viable option if you can't swing a .50! I love mine to death. As far as body armor goes i think everyone has pretty much covered it. Get familiar with the rating system (IE III versus III-A versus IV etc etc). To get protection from 7.62 you're going to need plates of some sort IE ceramic/steel. Kevlar is great for shrapnel/fragmentation. I'm not too schooled up on all the hybrid/synthetic shit they have now but from what I understand some of it can compare decently. I'm in the same boat brother. I've always been one for stocking up on .223/.308 and every spare case of MREs I can get my hands on (which hasn't been much lately). Better safe than sorry.

At the risk of sounding like a nut job.....

Waiting for a natural disaster, civil unrest, or an epidemic is not the time to realize you need something. I'd rather have something and never need it, than need something and not have have it at the time of extreme need.
And don't forget the zombi attack that are iminent too

YelleN

One thing I've always wondered about, but never knew anyone with practical knowledge nor the money to test it, how does the IV armor plate or otherwise handle penetrator rounds? I've got a couple thousand rounds of5.56 steel core/green tip, and a thousand+ rounds of 7.62x54R steel core mil surp.

I must recall an earlier post. although I know you're jsut kidding.

So don't anybody think about knocking on my door when TSHTF
But still, other people's lack of proper planning does not consitute my emergency. I'm prepared enough to handle my family, my parents and the families of my 3 brothers. If you're not in that group of people then you're on your own.

But I'm with you, we'll have lots of cigars to smoke! Tobacco will be at a premium less than a month after the zombies start biting people.

Some plates are designed to take steel penetrators. You have to read the plate specs. Most multistrike stand alone IV plates can take penetrators at least once.

remember how it goes...

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. I am all about getting enough arms and ammo to take out a few small countries but my fear has not grown enough to suffice the need of body armor yet...Maybe if i had children. my opinion might change when we have little ones....

I do love guns though...

Plus with your rentacop that lives next door, you've always got an ally nearby.
