Just saw this thread for the first time, and congrats on the Etymotics! For detailed, "uncolored" sound in this price range, I don't think you can beat them. As for the break-in period, I'm not sure what's being broken in.....the buds or your ears. Either way, I think you'll be happy with them. If you were listening to mostly classical music, I would have suggested the Sennheisers, but for stuff like Avenged, I think you got the right ones. Bose........bleah!

I'm glad this thread was made. My wife got me an ipod shuffle and the supplied headphones are good for nothing. It's like listening to music in my Jeep Cherokee that only has rear working speakers in the roof. If you have not had the pleasure it's like listening to canned shit.

westone U1 I think (hundred or so) are amazing. Last December I dropped them at my parent's house in Toronto, in the front yard. In April, I found them again (outside in the rain and snow of a Canada winter.) Been using them ever since. They work great still.

absolutely no bose. no other way to go than shures. and with their line up, they can fit almost any budget. I've found the se310's on ebay for under $100 before. I now have a pair of the 530's and they are the real deal. i use them for everything form casual music listening to using them while drumming
