Surprisingly enough (or unsurprisingly) that is the way it was taught to me in public elementary school back in the early 90s.
I remember learning it like that as a kid too. Problem was that the school system's didn't adopt the correct scientific information in a timely manner....

i am sorry, did you want a SPECIFIC cigar, or a discussion in GENERAL? mea culpa!
I was just interested in general discussion. No need to apologize; I'm not put off by anything anyone said. My OP might come across as criticism from a relative new-comer; I apologize for that; I intend it just as a positive suggestion.

In general, I am interested in finding people whose tastes match up with mine. I'll start another thread about that. I think my tastes are a bit out of the mainstream - another reason I'm always trying to glean what I can from what people say.

I won't smoke crap nor will I ignore the palates of everyone I talk to about the cigars I or we smoke. I trust my tobacconist, the folks at Grants have never steered me wrong and having paid attention to the feedback on taste I've given them, have recommended numerous everyday hits for me. Alfbaca is on this board (I believe) and even got m e to try a new cigar yesterday despite my distrust of the maker.

I can as a total snob say I love Don Cervantes cigars. I can actually TASTE the cigars flavor profile and for me that's relaxing, stimulating and for someone who can't stop thinking, a real treat. Does that work for you? I love the sizes, they're not over 50 ring gauge in any of their vitolas and from start to finish I get the same experience over and over again.

Just like I do with Padron, Tatuaje (except my first Wolfman was perfect, the last two were great until the bitter end) and most of what I've smoked by JC Newman.

But then again I'm also a connoisseur and self described "snob" when it comes to what I put into my body.

This is one of those questions that may never be answered. Everyone's subtle tastes are different. There are qualities I like in a cigar. Some of those flavorwise are hard to describe. Really, two cigars may be only slightly different, but in one the flavors meld in such a way that it appeals to me. Take the Wolfman, for example. There are cigars I like with a Sumatra wrapper, but I've encountered more that I don't like. I also can't stand a box press. For those reasons, I can't be honest and say I've gotten past all that and still decided I don't care for it. On a subliminal level, our likes and dislikes from past experiences play a huge role in our brain telling us if we "like" something new.

I'll be the one non-jerk response for you.

Yeah, yeah... everyone's tastes are different... yeah, yeah... buy what you like and not what someone else likes... yeah, yeah... you have crappy taste buds and can only taste "good" and "bad" but not "earth" or "cocoa." We've all heard it before...

That said...... I DO understand what you're getting at, OP! If you like spiciness in your cigars... and 9 of ten guys say they tasted pepper in it (whether or not they liked it), you're probably going to give that cigar a shot over just closing your eyes and blindly pointing at a humidor shelf inside your B&M for your next choice.

I also think most people that say they NEVER listen to others on a cigar are flat out full of crap. I bet if you go back and read posts from ALL the folks above, you'll find where they said something like, "Mmm, sounds great - I'll have to try a 5er," or "Oh wow - glad you said that - I almost pulled the trigger on a box." We ALL listen to each other... just at varying degrees... and at varying extents depending on our own experience base, budget, etc... Who has NEVER tried a cigar because a buddy or favorite retailer recommended it? And who has NEVER stayed away from something for the same reason?

So...

For me...

My favorite regular production stick is the Cohiba Siglo VI. Why? Well it is NOT for no reason!

Firstly, the canonazo vitola is perfect for me. Great time of smoke, great volume of smoke that stays perfectly cool, etc... The aromas of leather are usually pretty prevalent and that always takes my mind back to nicer places and really smells like a cigar SHOULD smell (to me). It's typical flavor profile is earthy (often a sweeter earthiness like the "barnyard" eath people describe) and cedary with leather and cocoa just in the background. They can also ten to be very creamy throughout the whole smoke.

Canonazo + leathery and raw tobacco aromas + sweeter earth + cedar + hints of cocoa and leather = my favorite regular production cigar... Sig VI!

Now stop posting to tell the guy why he's dumb...... and just answer the question or click on the next post!

Cheers! :cbig:
Great, now I need a box code and year:grin:

This would have been a better image.....just saying:grin:
