Care to share a little about the cigar, where it came from etc...? Not meaning to mention names of folks on here if that was your source btw, but you should make them aware if that is the situation by pm.

How mobile are these beetles? Is the hole from just one beetle? If it was on one shelf, do I have to worry about other shelves? I don't even know if the hole was their to begin with. I checked all the cigars in the immediate area.

I will let them know KK33

I'd be worried if you stored your stash in a location at or above 70F. As for the location, I dunno if they migrate shelf to shelf, but I wouldn't take the chance. Sorry to freak you out, but you wouldn't want your stash ruined.

yup, beetle (or larva) hole. and, yup, they can and will move. think smaller brown lady-bugs of doom: they can crawl over or under, and I would look REAL close at the entire stash. start thinking about freezing stuff. good luck.

Okay, Dave contacted me unsure of what to do next, so I told him I would post about it. Before everyone freaks out about bombs I sent, the cigar in the picture was NOT in my humidor.

That being said, it is a Maduro Toro that came from Franklin's shop as part of the split that was done last month. I do have Lipher's part of the split in a separate humidor along with some of his other splits, and there is NO evidence of any issue there. I've contacted Franklin, and he was a little surprised. He hasn't gotten any reports of this before, nor has he seen any signs in the shop at all.

That being said, Dave asked if something should be said, and we both felt that making everyone aware of it was important.

These cigars were also NOT part of the purchase that Wicket has up for the auction.

If you have cigars that you bought directly from Franklin, or got in a bomb or pass, take a look at them. You may want to separate them from you general population and watch them for a little while.

This all maybe my overreaction to Dave's note, but I felt I needed to say something. Although I didn't roll, make, store in my humidor or sell the cigar, I am passing along Franklin's apologies for any worry this has caused.

I also cannot speak for Dave's stash, if this is the source, etc. Although I know he is searching through his stash currently.

Thanks for posting Jim, I'm glad we can be transparent. I'm personally not worried about it and will do a thorough comb through of my stash and I'm always in it, so I'll be keeping a close eye on it. I'm sure it's more a problem for people who have humidors that they don't touch for months at a time.

This has prompted me to research cigar beetles and get to the bottom of the facts. As I had my cigars stored at 65/65 in my wineador and I specifically got it so I could regulate temps.

I'll keep you all updated

Thanks for bringing this to light guys. I asked 3/5 to pass on the name of who he got from for my own good, but always a good idea to share with the entire group and be sure you look at every cigar you get from others before throwing them into the mix with your precious stashes. I thoroughly inspected the Franklins I was graciously bombed and only found one problem. The problem is, I have only smoked one so far! Thx again guys.

If there is one, there are more....the larva lives in the cigar (think maggot).. slowly growing fat and then turns into a beetle. There is never just one egg in one cigar. FREEZE 'em.
As for the hole... get some pectin, cut the cap, take a piece of it and cover the hole with the piece, seal with pectin... and smoke it! That meaty note in the flavor profile is cooked beetle larva... but it only lasts a minute or so.....:eyebrow:
Just my $0.02.
