Glad to know you are enjoying both. Just be careful if you go down the very slippery road of coffee roasting. I went down it around 15 years ago and have never been able to come back!@Maineiac drinking a cup of the Nicaraguan (brewed in a Clever-L) and pairing it with the LAT. It is a great cup of coffee and roasted exceptionally well. Wicked job my man!
Let us know how it is!!!Had to bags with maybe 1/4 lb in each of beans ... My first blend
Smells phenomenal.
Looks better to me. Has a more even color and less chaff if you still want a darker roast maybe try until you hear 2nd C and then drop/colander in a pan and cool quick.Just finished my 2nd shot at roasting. Tried to go longer and darker this roast, maybe 7-7.5 min in the air popper.
Color isn't a ton darker than the last to my eye but its a bit more oily.
I have re-roasted one or two batches in the past and they tasted fine. Some people say the re-roast can take on a funny taste and others say nothing bad. Maybe it depends on the beans and how dark you go the first time? I could see on a darker roast that has more oils it could burn the oils on the outside quick and ruin the batch. I'd try it and see if it taste good thats the only way you'll know after all.Is there anything wrong with throwing the beans back in for more roasting after they've cooled completely?
Which is better the Yemen Moki or this one? Glad you enjoyed the Geisha
Roasted up some Guatemala Acatenango Gesha yesterday from @Tennessee Dave. Took a long time to get first crack and only ran a few seconds after before cooling. Brother it's not a budget bean but if you like what SM lists as the flavor profile jump on some for a treat. Thank you Dave for bombing me with this fantastic bean
By far for my taste the Gesha. The Yemen had a very grassy note and not much else. I'm going to change the roast time on the next batch of Yemen and see if it's better.Which is better the Yemen Moki or this one? Glad you enjoyed the Geisha
Maybe try to blend the two together. Two parts Gesha to one part Yemen, just enough for a single cup. Blending experiments are fun.By far for my taste the Gesha. The Yemen had a very grassy note and not much else. I'm going to change the roast time on the next batch of Yemen and see if it's better.
I knew it was only a matter of time until the enabler @ChuckMejia talked you into it haha. Welcome Aaron I'm sure you'll enjoy home roast way more and be hooked for good.I'm going to try my hand at this coffee thing. Never really been a coffee drinker. Tonight I ordered a cheap burr grinder, electric digital kettle, pour over decanter (all at the recommendation of @ChuckMejia), as well as an air popper with 8lb sampler from sweet Maria's. Chuck was kind enough to roast me some beans and shipped them today. My decanter, grinder, and kettle will be here tomorrow thanks to amazon prime 1 day free shipping. Once everything else arrives, and I'm ready to try roasting for the first time, I'll be turning to you guys for advice. This thread could result in some real trouble for me if all goes well. Thanks to all you freaking enablers If it doesn't go as planned, watch the classifieds for some barely used coffee supplies for sale/trade
I guess we can call it even since I threw him from the CC cliff without a chute (that is if I enjoy it)I knew it was only a matter of time until the enabler @ChuckMejia talked you into it haha. Welcome Aaron I'm sure you'll enjoy home roast way more and be hooked for good.
