I wouldn't risk it. At that cost I would opt for newer production within the last 4-5 years. I have smoked quite a few old cigars. Anywhere from the 1930's and up. I can tell you for sure it is extremely hit or miss! Not to mention that era of production has a terrible reputation for beinng plugged. Just my lousy 2 cents.

I've had really good luck with the '05 H. Upmann Mag 46s in the cardboard. I put them in a cab for 6 months, and they smoke wonderfully now.
Very interesting, I have wondered about this. I put 13 of the 2005 Clasicos in a tall 1 1/2 pint jar and will crack them open after 6 months. I wanted to see if sealing them make a difference after all this time.

I am not sure you would get the same result in a jar, my experiment was more about having them in the wooden cab than having them "sealed", per se.

99-01 good chance they well be tent pegs. I've had good cigars from those years along with totally unsmokable cigars. I don't risk buying from those years.
I've had great cigars stored in cardboard 5 plus years. I still take mine out of the cardboard and move them to a slb.
