I can't see anyone really taking this cigar seriously.
Why? Diddy is selling Ciroc like crazy, and it's not even vodka (which they market it as).

People underestimate the power of endorsement.
^^^ This... ^^^^

They are not likely trying to appeal to the members of this board..

Think of the number of people that buy "Air Jordans" just because of the name... they dont play the sport that the shoe was designed for.. but they love the look, image, status, etc.. associated with having it..

They will sell thousands of boxes of these things.. at $30+ a stick.. to people that want to be seen as ballers.. or want to impress their friends.. and will make a ton of money in the process..

It wont be hard core collectors/smokers that buy most of these... it will be the occasional social smoker that is going out to "the club" and wants all his friends to take notice...

Actually a brilliant move (yet again) on Jay-Z's part... using his brand to sell another product... that he wants to be associated with (the finer things in life)...

I guess I look at it differently. Being a fan of his and knowing that he is an avid cigar smoker, thought they might be good. I think the price is high for any NC Cohiba, but It was just a thought.

Other than the few CC Cohibas I have, you will find nothing by General in my humidor.

I could care less if it's cool or not to have these or not and for the $30 price tag I will probably never smoke one. I posted this topic to find out about the cigar and to see if anyone ever smoked it to see how it was.

You know, it's possible I suppose. If I were as big as Jigga, and launching a cigar with my name attached, I'd for darn sure want to make sure I enjoyed the cigar I was going to have to smoke in public constantly from now on.

I meant the Cohiba brand in general.

I don't it's just about the money with him. Jay-Z probably sees this as more of way to increase brand awareness, and possibly increase reach out to people who currently are not fans of him.
True. With his name behind it, it has a greater chance of becoming something great.

Fact that something sells doesn't make it great.
As very evident with the actual Cuban brand. IMHO, Cohiba is a great cigar, but so over hyped and overpriced that it has become rediculous. Soooooo
many other CC's on the market that are better without the needless mark up.

The way everyone chases DE LEs, he could blend a cigar with any celebrity and most guys on here would pay $30 without batting an eye.

Hell, the way his prices keep going up, pretty soon you will be paying that for a No.9

$7.00.

If this cigar were $7.00, I'd try one.
Seven's the number!

Two things - first, LPs are generally known for being good cigars. The same could be said about My Father, Tatuaje, and a number of other brands as you stated about LP - a celebrity could blend a cigar with them and the price would be less of an issue.

Red Dots on the other hand, are not known for being great cigars. The most commonly uttered phrase regarding them that I've seen is some variation of "well it wasn't horrible..." General Cigars typically makes mediocre products, so I see this as nothing more than a gimmick, though you could be right, it could be a decent cigar. I can't say for sure, but based on other Red Dot offerings... meh.

Second, LP prices haven't gone up much. Several years ago I couldn't find an LP9 box for under $260. Guys were buying them on Famous for $220 a week ago. They've stayed in the $10-12 range for a number of years now, at least from what I've seen/paid.

Gotta love how you can ask a simple question and turn into having to defend yourself.
Nobody is making you defend yourself. No one is slighting you for asking the question. Most of us simply think General Cigars is a mediocre cigar maker, and that this is nothing more than a gimmick. That you asked about them doesn't reflect poorly on you at all, and there's no need to be defensive.

I for one am glad you asked the question. I'd never heard of the cigar, and didn't know JayZ was involved in a cigar project. I'm still not interested in the cigar itself, but the subject interested me.

Martin, I completely agree that it's somewhat tempting to support what Jayz does if you're a fan. I've bought every record of his on release date as far as I can remember. I also appreciate that he does bring positive press to the cigar industry and lifestyle.

That said, I'm more than nervous about this style of a project. If you're hawking a 30 dollar cigar that's mediocre at best, it's a detriment to the industry no matter what Jay makes. I'm not going to say its bad without trying it, but regular Cohiba and others who have done similar product releases do not have a great track record.

Jay-Z does white a few collaborations with other companies that coinside with hip hop culture. He did a collab with luxury watch maker Hublot and does numerous collaborations with Sneaker companies, Fragrance companies and now a cigar company. Its not just about the money. He does collabs with things that he actually enjoys and he does happen to enjoy cigars. I do however think its a bit ridiculous. Im not sure how many cigar aficionados out there are big enough fans of JayZ to purchase any of these especially knowing youre paying specifically for the collab. I cant imagine the cigar itself is anything that will break the mold.

If ciroc isn't vodka, then what is it? (just curious...)
The description said Conneticut Broadleaf with a Conneticut "Havana" binder
I believe. I wonder if they meant "Habano"?
