To give fellow Brothers out there who aren't familiar with the pain we Canucks go through, below is a comparison of Canadian vs US dolla$ for 7 sticks I recently bought. Canadian pricing is what I had to pay at my B&M, US pricing is what I found for the EXACT same cigars I bought in Canada, except through one of BOTL's sponsors in the US. There was 1 stick I couldn't find through a BOTL sponsor but was able to find through another US online retailer. Two I shouldn't be able to find in the US at all because I purchased genuine Cuban sticks:

Canadian Pricing
1. Padron 2000 Natural -- $19.96
2. Joya De Nicaragua Antano Alisado -- $14.95 See note #1
3. Cuaba Exclusivo -- $23.45 See note #2
4. Cohiba Sigle VI -- $51.41 See note #2
5. Upmann Royal Robusto -- $25.50
6. Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente -- $19.60
7. CAO Golden Honey Petite -- $8.75

American Pricing
1. Padron 2000 Natural -- $5.10 (BOTL Sponsor Price)
2. Joya De Nicaragua Antano Alisado -- $7.22 (BOTL Sponsor Price)
3. Cuaba Exclusivo -- Not Available Through A US Retailer
4. Cohiba Sigle VI -- Not Available Through A US Retailer
5. Upmann Royal Robusto -- $7.85 (non BOTL Sponsor Price)
6. Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente -- $4.69 (BOTL Sponsor Price)
7. CAO Golden Honey Petite -- $3.40 (BOTL Sponsor Price)

Difference (Canadian minus US)
1. Padron 2000 Natural -- $14.86
2. Joya De Nicaragua Antano Alisado -- $7.73
3. Cuaba Exclusivo -- N/A
4. Cohiba Sigle VI -- N/A
5. Upmann Royal Robusto -- $17.65
6. Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente -- $14.91
7. CAO Golden Honey Petite -- $5.35

Canadian Total (All 7 Cigars): $163.62
Canadian Total (Cigars 1,2, 5, 6, and 7 only): $88.76
US Total (Cigars 1,2, 5, 6, and 7 only): $28.26
Difference Between US and Canadian Prices (Cigars 1,2, 5, 6, and 7 only): $60.50

#1 = This Canadian price was made possible after an EARTH-SHATTERING discount of one dollar and sixty-five cents!!!
#2 = Both of these sticks I bought were Cuban. I'm sure if I looked hard enough I could find them on a US site somewhere but they're illegal in the US anyways so I didn't bother.

***Important to note that these prices are for SINGLES.***

I didn't buy from an online retailer in the US because I was hoping to hold out until I was able to access the marketplace here. By Saturday, just a few days shy of my big day. . . I caved. I have now seen the light and will never pay Canadian retail again (thanks for that line bdc30 :). Even though cigars that enter Canada are taxed based on Canadian retail pricing, our sponsors have very reasonable shipping rates and that combined with taxes charged by customs would probably still be less than visiting a tobacconist in the Great White North.

What are prices like in your stomping grounds?

Look on the bright side, if you thought after reading this that Canadian pricing was insane - you should see the prices that they charge for a single stick here in Australia. The merchant pays whatever discount rate they receive, then adds Government Tobacco Duty (Tax) at a rate of approx $475 per kilogram (2.2pounds) to the cost of the stick. The average Cohiba price in Australia is around the $45-100 mark, for a single stick. Padron's are around $15-20+. Upmann are around $24+.
Commonwealth countries cop it all the time with cigar pricing....Stay strong our Canadian BOTL !!

Wow, that's crazy. Makes NYC cigar taxes look miniscule.

Between that and Celine Dion, you guys are screwed. :agreesmil

Prices on things to drink with your cigar are ridiculous too. When I went fishing in Canada last summer, we brought in our own beer and whiskey and just paid the import fee. Even with that (about $7 a case or bottle) it was considerably cheaper. Case of Labatt Blue in States ($16) plus import fee ($7) lots cheaper than paying over $35 in Canada. Price of booze even worse.

Love the fishing and scenery there but prices on gas, beer, smokes, etc is astronomical.

I guess that also explains the $99 PSP2 I saw in Niagara Falls. The same cigar I paid $10 for in Dubai not but a week earlier.

By the time I pack up the wife and two kids and pay 4 fares to cuba for the week I might as well just pay retail here ;)

But once they're grown and moved out, that will likely be wife and I's annual getaway :) :)

Upmann Royal Robusto for $7.85 / stick?

That's gotta be a typo. Haven't seen anything less than $13 / stick anywhere. Not saying the rest isn't true as I know Canadian prices are crazy, but that price on the RR American jumped out at me.

yes, the prices in Aus are disgusting, as we are constantly lumped in with ciggie smokers. unfortunately makes it hard for the small boutique cigar merchant with a family to support to stay in business
