I try not to be a food snob... but when it comes to sushi I only eat the best. I don't mess around. I got food poisoning a long time ago when I didn't know better. I almost died but I learned my lesson.
I am with you. I average between $70 and $100 for lunch for myself. My guy goes to the port every morning to buy the best. He is really good but super expensive. My favorite is Toro. $18.00 for two pieces, but it is the best thing you ever put in your mouth.

Nope...I am a hardcore sushi eater. My wife won't even go to sushi with me. My sushi place specializes in the exotic. Whole baby octopus, salmon skin, raw clams, whole Japanese river crabs.

I eat my Sea Urchin with a raw quail egg and smelt eggs on top.
Now your talking. I go to this place in Chinatown, Boston. Its a hole in the wall but open till 4am. It was a favorite spot when I worked in the city especially. Cold Tea till 4am. Anyways they would have lobster sashimi prepared table side every now and again. Its awesome and you can feel it squiggle when you swallow it.

The conveyor system only works when a place is packed. Love uni and shrimp heads. Tuna cheeks.

Was it crab "mustard"? I haven't heard of crab butter. If you've ever had steamed blue crabs, there's this stuff that looks like grey poupon mustard inside the crab when you open it up. It's pretty tasty but definitely an acquired taste. I love sushi but I've had bad sushi and I could tell once it hit my tongue. Bad stuff. Of course I should of known never to try sushi at a Chinese buffet.

Where do you usually go? I used to go to sushi Koyo in Diamond Bar when I lived down in socal... same thing the chef there used to go to the port everyday. The guy would adhere to tradition and he refused to make anything like spider roll or cali roll.. and sometimes if someone ordered that stuff he would kick them out of the restaurant!

oh and sorry to threadjack hehe

Sushi is definitely not something to be skimpy about when it comes to price. I find that you get what you pay for rings extremely true for sushi. I love sushi and I try to eat it at least once a week, but cheap, quick sushi is definitely a no-no.
