While deployed on Embassy Duty in the Marine Corps, my gunnery sergeant blessed me with my first cigar. Haven't looked back since. That was in 1979 ans a memory ill never forget.

Walked by a b&m all the time which was a block away from my place in college. Curiosity got the best if me, and it evolved from there.

Always thought it looked cool. During college my bro and his friends took me to club macanudo in NYC. Just got into it more and more from there.

I'm not entering the contest. I just want to chime. I actually became interested in cigars due to the rich history involved. I am a history buff, and I saw a article in a magazine about the rollers in Cuba. Shortly after, a guy transferred to my work area, and he smoked cheap cigars. I tried one. And now it's hopeless.

My grandfather, who essentially raised me, left me his ashtrays when he passed away just after my 13th birthday. When I turned 18 I decided to start putting them to use... and then really got serious about the hobby just after my son was born 4 years ago.

As an ex cigarette smoker, I use to have a cigar occasionally at a wedding or such. Quit smoking cigarettes and found I really missed the social aspect to smoking. A few years ago, a friend handed me a great scotch (Belvaine Double wood) and asked if I cared for a cigar to go with it. It was down hill from there. On a side note my wife truely got onboard at our wedding where I made sure we had a few verities of scotch and 4 boxes of cigars....we spent about have the night smoking and drinking with family and friends.

Birth of my Daughter, Smoked a RP Decade and it was not very good, But I though that it was so neat. So I kept pretending I liked smoking cigars until I finally started enjoying it.

Got a free humidor as a gift from a poker site I used to play at. Figured I might as well grab some sticks to fill it. Found BOTL.

Down the slippery slope I went....lol

I think I got an appreciation for cigars early, being around a couple old family members that I liked that smoked them. Smoked them occasionally, as a novelty, as a kid, just cause we weren't allowed. Always carried a curiosity about them. Then, at almost 50, I bit on a Thompson's ad in a magazine. Life pretty much had me by the short hairs, and I needed a relaxing outlet. Cigars worked, but I didn't know good from bad. Then I found a b&m 30mi. away. Wandered in a bought a few singles that I recognized from the catalogs. Smoked a Oliva G maduro that evening. Realized, "This tastes good!" Ditched Thompson's, and have been enjoying them since.
