Not everybody wants to be a lawyer or accountant. Not everybody wants to go to school and then sit in a desk.

While many of these guys are single with few expenses (mostly beer and women), some are married with kids, mortages, car payments, etc. Most of these guys have literally grown up on the water and do this year-round. They go from one type of fishing to the next ... crab, lobster, abalone, tuna, salmon, etc. I enjoy occasional fishing but I know I could not handle the extreme environment these guys face every year.

Holy crap...$47k per deckhand on the Northwestern. Most of the other boats averaged $20k per deckhand. Not bad for a weeks work :dunno:

No big deal on that near capsize ... the only injury was a banged elbow. Nice hauls for the NW ($700K) and the Cornelieus Marie ($800K). That's a LOT of crab.

It also helped they had the bigger boats. I guess that's why they had the higher quotas to get too.

Damn that is good. Imagine if they have another job during the year. They could be making close to 100K easy.

That's their haul and money for that 1 crab season. They catch different types next.

The ship that sank, they got dead. Big difference between first and last in this job.

What ship that sank? Was that last season or something? :dunno:

The next crab season coming up looks interesting. A different type of crab and going into freezing/icey conditions.

Alot of money, but what a dangerous occupation.

And, just the same for the camera people. You know that's not what they were thinking of filming when they were in college. I think I'd find a way off that job lol. They gotta get some kinda bonus though or something.

Ship sunk? Cool I gotta watch that a little more. Oops, did people die? That is not cool.
Yes, that was last season during opilio crab season. The ship was called Big Valley and 5 of her crew died. One person was recovered in a liferaft. He didn't know what happened other than the ship capsized and quickly sunk in rough seas.
