you can get by with most things in your checked bags. they will NOT allow torch lighters of any kind in carry on. they will allow a "soft" flame like a bic. this happened to me in july. they had a place where you could mail your stuff back home if you didn't want to lose it.

fyi.... i take my cutters through the airport All THE TIME! No worries
there now torch lighters, that's a NO NO! pack your torch lighter and
carry a bic in your pocket and you'll be good to go! Or grab you a couple
of Ronson's in case you forget and leave it in your pocket so there won't
be a big fuss if they confiscate it! Otherwise you'll be paying 25.00 to ship
your lighter back home and it could cause you to miss your flight if your
schedule is tight/conflicted. I've also noticed depending on the airport and
which part of the country you're in a lot of flights are leaving early!....

hope that helps.

This is the main reason for my question. my gf is always, ALWAYS (did i mention always) running late, so i dont want to get held up for any reason and miss the flight.

btw, we're flying out of chicago ohare.

Grabbing a couple ronsons is a great idea.. a whole 3-4 bucks a piece and no need to worry if one is confiscated.
