I've drank a lot of good beer in the west and east. Personally my favorite is Goose Island in Chicago. The beer they make exclusively for Frontera Grill is my favorite beer. Other than that I prefer Texas beer. I drink mainly Rahr & Sons Ugly Pug and Stormcloud IPA. I live near Austin, and there are around a dozen independent brewers in the city alone, so I have more than my fill of good beer.

Ill tell you who has good beer, me in Utah. Black IPA, Rye IPA and a Belgium pale ale. All paired with a Cain. I feel good now.

Utah microbrews are good but all that is home made. Good night now.

Not to be a "contrary mary," but I have yet to have an Abita than wowed me... I've had Amber, Purple haze, Jokomo, and Turbodog, all on tap & bottle ('cept the Joko - just bottle).

I like it Abita Brew Co, but as a whole, the WC brews are collectively better.

Number of breweries means nothing. The below explains my opinion that the West Coast has the best beer.

Deschutes > Dog Fish Head
Stone > Flying Dog
Russian River > Smuttynose
Ballast Point > Victory
Lost Abbey > Brooklyn
Bear Republic > Troegs
Firestone Walker > Magic Hat
The Bruery > Harpoon
Alesmith > Wyerbacher
Anchor > Lion
Speakeasy > Feglee's
Alpine > Boston Brewing
Great Divide > Yuengling
