There's a song by a band called Death Cab for Cutie that really sums up the experience. It's called "What Sarah Said". I remember hearing it after I went through the same thing with my mom.

I hate to hear that Tim. My prayers are with you and your family. My grandad went through several strokes before he passed. Didn't recognize anyone at the end.
